About the Book

Following on the very hot heels of Pick Me Up, Do Not Open, and Take Me Back, comes Open Me Up, and irreverent, graphically dynamic, intelligently hilarious, and gruesomely informative book about the goings on of our innards.
A spectacular 3-D cover (featuring an incredible die cut to reveal the internal organs) will wow browsers, while the superb interior design, imagery, and information will seal the deal. Learn about the discovery of penicillin from a graphic novel, see how the heart works via its social networking page, and watch white blood cells zap invaders on a video-game spread.
This is not your father's Gray's Anatomy.

My Thoughts

This book is absolutely FABULOUS!   So much that I am hiding it in my bedroom so I can read it because going to bed.   I love it…2011_02_18_18_01_45_0001

But when I received it, the kids had fun going through the book to look at it.   I must say that this book is filled with hilarious and creative representation of the human body.   Take the digestive system for example.   To illustrate the different organs involved in the digestion of food, the creators of this book have used balloons.   Yes you have read perfectly right – BALLOONS.   When Jérémy saw this (he’s the one with the orange shirt on – age 5) he decided to make the sound of a fart coming out… ROTFL   That’s life with three boys….

For a homeschooling family, this book is definitively a must have.    The information contained in it will complete and confirm that lessons on the human body you might have done with your kids.    My two oldest boys and I are currently going through some curriculum about the human body and this fun book is a wonderful to add more to the lessons learned.  The information contained in this book is presented in various formats like comics, graphics, restaurant menu, award winning organ, toilet truths (which is totally hilarious), report card and much much more.

While reading some of the pages, you can even give an history lesson.   For example there is a page titled LEMONAID which is presenting information on the scurvy.    After reading this page, I explained to the boys that scurvy was a sickness that a lot of people crossing the Atlantic would have due to the lack of fresh fruits and vegetables.  It was nice to link this information with a bit of history.

I am planning to use this book by reading regularly a page or two to my kids.   Even my 3 years old girl is attracted by the pages which are bright and colourful.    This kind of book is a must for homeschoolers if you ask me.   It contains tons of information on how our body works and how to keep it healthy.

As for us, we have received a wonderful book that I suspect will become a fun book to learn from for my kids.
