My Thoughts

Manhattan Toy Happy Haunted Halloween Giveaway!

Halloween is always a touchy subject within the Christian community.   Some won’ let their kids trick or treat while other have no problems whatsoever with it.   I won’t enter a debate on whether or not it is okay to let your kids pass Halloween.   What I know is that as a kid I have fond memories of this special night and I never had a scary costume.

We debated before having kids if we would let them walk and get candies but when we had our first child, we could hardly wait to bring him out on that special night.  Our primary rule is that they won’t wear something scary.   The second rule is that candies are shared in the house – and these are limited to two or three for dessert at supper time.   The result is that we have candies lasting until after Christmas but we savor the plunder together as a family.  Let me tell you that with four kids we have quite a bit of candies!

My Thoughts

I have a confession to make.   I love the Groovy Girls!   And I will be honest with you that I started buying some at a 2nd hand store before I had my daughter.  So when she arrived I had cute little dolls that she could play with.   I was even able to get a tent (perfect when we camp during the summer!), a chair, the pampering desk as well as a dining booth while shopping at the 2nd hand stores.

But if you want to have the latest in the Groovy Girls you have to go the the specialty toy store in town or directly at the Manhattan Toy website.

Imagine my joy when I learned that I would be reviewing one of the latest Groovy Girls – Cali Candy Cane.    When I received the box, I immediately opened it and fell in love with this beautiful doll.   I’m delighted to see that she has blond hair like my daughter.  Cali is dressed in a beautiful red dress which is is completed with a candy cane style border.   Her whole outfit is stunning and will please any little girl I am sure.   Even her hair are stylish with a bit of red in it.    This touch is simply wonderful I find.   The Christmas spirit is everywhere in this outfit from the hair to the tip of the shoes.    Even the bag she hold has some Christmas spirit in it.

This doll is definitively a great item to have in the stocking under the tree (or hanging at the chimney!).    As usual I am impressed with the quality and the originality of the Groovy Girls dolls. 

If you are looking for a fun doll for your daughter or a niece, I would strongly suggest that you look into the line of products of Groovy Girls.  These soft dolls are adorable, easy to carry around and will delight the little girl in your life.

My Thoughts

Recently an opportunity rose for me to review a Manhattan Toy Parents product which are geared for fun travel time for young kids.    And I received a Busy Bug Count & Match Dominoes.    When I was younger I played with Dominoes a lot so I was curious about this specific game.

The first thing that impressed me was the quality and the sturdiness of the game.   The box is made of wood and resembles at one of these bug catching products that kids can use during the summer time to observe bugs.  The tiles itself are very thick and will be easily handled by little hands.

My daughter is three years old and she likes to play with new things.    I can see that she will keep herself occupied during our homeschool days in the Fall with this domino game.   In the meantime, the packaging is so small that it is perfect to bring along while going camping at our campsite or on the road while travelling with the RV.   Each tile possess two different or similar bugs that the child has to match with another tile with the same creatures.   The number is also indicated on it.  The tiles have between 1 to 9 bugs on it.   The tiles are made out of wood which will last for a long time. 

The game is easy to play – turn the tiles upside down on a table and select a certain number of tiles depending of the numbers of players (for 2 players select 7 tiles each, 3 or 4 players 5 tiles per person).   The player who has the highest number of bugs on one domino can start the game by laying it face up on the table.   Taking turns, the players will advance their domino game until one of them has no more dominoes.    When you can play, you have to pick another tile.  It is a pretty simple game that can be played with little ones and their older siblings.   

Because the game is made out of wood, I wouldn’t be surprised to see some families keeping this jewel of a game in their heirloom for their grandkids to play with it one day.  

I absolutely adore the presentation of the game as well as the colorful tiles.    The fact that bugs are used for the domino game makes it very interesting on an homeschool/camping point of view.  While playing you can talk about the different kind of bugs and incorporate some facts about bugs.     When you are travelling with an RV with children, you always end up have some days where you need to play games indoors because of the weather.  The fact the this game is very portable and light makes it interesting to have in our RV.    I am always trying to find ways to reduce the weight of the things we are bringing with us but this game can be included in our luggage without worrying about the space it takes.  

I give my two thumbs up for this beautifully made domino game.    It is sturdy, original and easy to bring along anywhere you go – even at picnic if you feel like it!

Our Thoughts

We received the PJ Tot Bonnie Bunny and her adorable sleeping bag earlier this week.   I must admit that the delivery was quite fast.   

Bonnie Bunny is very cute and has caught the love of my 3 years old daughter immediately.   When she saw that there was a sleeping bag included with this doll her eyes brighten up.     “My baby will be able to sleep with me!” she said.

Yes sweetheart, she can…

She immediately proceed to put Bonnie Bunny inside her sleeping bag which also had bunny ears and has the same colors as the doll.    This little doll doesn’t leave her since she entered our household.   It is her baby girl like she says.    She is even talking about  bringing her to camping with us when we open our RV later in May.   *grin*

The doll is very soft and easy to grab for little hands.   Her head will turn easily even though it is made of plastic.    However, I am questioning the use of plastic for the head and hands.     The doll is made in China and knowing the issues we have discovered in the past few years I am wondering if Manhattan Toys have put in place verification for quality assurance when plastic is involved.  The details of the face are painted.    Knowing that Manhattan Toy is also being the Groovy Girls, wouldn’t it be wiser to decide to include a soft head instead?    I am just wondering…

Nevertheless, Jasmine is carrying her doll everywhere she goes in the house.   On Tuesday the doll was at the dining table during the homeschool lessons while Jasmine was drawing.   Bonnie was also with us when we watch an episode of Star Wars Clone Wars Season 2 after supper time.   I suspect that Bonnie will be part of Jasmine life for a while.

Part of me wish I had received Lola Ladybug and her snuggly for my girl as I find it is totally adorable…. and we both loves ladybugs.   But Jasmine adores Bonnie Bunny as it is pink and it has a ton of hearts all over her PJ and snuggly.
