I sure hope it didn’t happen… And from the list, even the few that I could find on the library system I could not request a transfer as it was not available. Fortunately I own some of the titles suggested and I can adapt the Bible stories with one of the kid’s bibles we have at home.

Whales are majestic creatures! I’ve been on a boat to a whale expedition when I was a teen and enjoyed it so much. One of my dreams is to bring my husband and kids to such a trip one of these days. In the meantime though, we can enjoy them when we go to aquariums or places like Marineland. And to prepare for such a trip, Amanda Bennet new Download N Go Unit Study on Whale Tales is a must.

This unit study will make you discover more about whales from where they live to their diet. We all know that whales sing beautifully but what else do we really know about this majestic mammals living in the ocean? Again I can feel the level of research done while writing this amazing unit study. The videos are simply stunning and the activities very fun to do. Learning happens best when there is fun I found. In the Download N Go unit studies we have done in the past, my oldest children always find it very special to sit down and watch a video on the subject. While I was reviewing this particular unit study on whales, my oldest son was with me and enjoyed the videos as much as I did. When he saw the video about the whale encounter while being in a tourist submarine, he thought it was way cool. I always knew that whales communicate by singing but to listen to them is so breathtaking. It always remind me the Star Trek movie The Voyage Home where the crew has to go back in time to get some whales so they can rescue planet Earth.

Have you ever dream to visit one specific country? Dreamed about it since you were younger? I do. And I am still dreaming about it.  This country would be Australia with the koalas, kangaroos and many other things. So imagine my delight when I was chosen to be part of the team who would review the Download N Go about Australia. I couldn’t ask for a better title for me. I can’t hardly wait to start reading the book with my kids.

On day one, the kids and I will discover where Australia is located on Earth. Okay I know where it is and what it looks like. Even my oldest could find Australia on the globe we have at home. But my three younger ones will have a blast to discover that Australia is an island. They will also investigate the Great Barrier Reef and learn about the koala. On day two, we will discover more about this country – the regions of Australia, Uluru, major cities and the kangaroo. From the galley I received I know that I will learn more about Australia too. And believe me, I sense that I will get the travelling bug too. If only going there was not so expensive. *sigh* On day three, we will learn a bit more about Australia’s history, learn about the wombat, discover where the Great Victoria Desert is located, learn more about its flag, and learn about Captain Cook and the Aborigines. Day four will bring more interesting information about Australia – investigate the Great Dividing Range, learn about the platypus (isn’t it an interesting animal?), become familiar with the Southern Cross constellation and discover what is National Australia Day (mmmm! I have the tendency to put up special days on my facebook account and I am quite curious about this one...). Finally, day five will bring you to investigate the outback, learn more about the boomerang (and if you are interested to see how a boomerang is made check this video), discover the Tasmanian devil (not the cartoon one but the real animal) and get introduce to the Australian national anthem.

And once again this title of the Download N Go series contain fun family activities to do and a lapbook to complete. As you can see the Expedition Australia is packed with interesting activities and links to discover with your kids. You will have videos, coloring pages, fast facts about the country, learn new words, maps, discover what a didgeridoo is, discover the boomerang and how it work and much more. With all these activities, it is almost as if I would travel there with my children... And honestly, I can’t wait to get all the books related to this title so I can discover the country with them. Winter Wonders - Download N Go Unit Study

Winter... another special season here in Ontario, Canada. We are so blessed to experience the four seasons here in my province. Each of them has something special... In winter, even though the temperature drops (going sometimes to minus 40C), we also get an amazing landscape with snow and ice.
 
This is the time to take out the skates and the sleds and enjoy the snow while it is here. When fresh snow falls onto the ground, the children are looking forward to make a snowman. It also means snowstorms sometimes as well as ice storms but regardless I think that winter is a special season in itself. That’s why when I had the opportunity to review the new Download N Go unit study titled Winter Wonders, I jumped on the opportunity.
 
 In this wonderful unit study (from which I already ordered the books from the library in town for our month of December more specifically before Christmas arrives!), you will discover with your children what is winter, experiment the science behind winter, learn more about the people and places of winter, learn more about animals during the winter and discover the winter sports – including snowshoeing. The best part is that we have  classic snowshoes in the shed. Yes in the shed... and it is packed to the max. I should have thought about it when we were looking for my skates a couple of weeks ago. Oh well! I guess I can show them to the kids when spring comes around – not practical but they can see how they were made by in aboriginal for my own maternal grand-mother.
 
Throughout this wonderful unit study, you will also discover amazing books with your children. Accompanying this unit study you will get some interesting activities and a lapbook project. What a great way to have fun during the month of December/January!
 
Personally, I can hardly wait to discover how icicles get formed and where the hot chocolate originates. As any other unit study from Amanda Bennett, Winter Wonders is well packed and you will learn quite a few things while doing it with your kids.

Ah! Birthdays! Who doesn’t like those? In our household, we always try to celebrate as a family anytime there is a birthday and with six people in this family, we have a lot of special days during the year. As I wrote this review for TOS (back in November) it was a special day for a little boy in our family. Our third son was turning four.  Then in December we have 2 celebrations, February will bring one birthday, March will brings not only spring but a birthday as well, and finally June has one celebration. To make birthdays extra special now, a new product from TOS and Amanda Bennett is currently available.

Part of the Download N Go Series, you have now a special unit study about birthdays. The title it Birthday Bonanza and indeed it is ALL about a special day for the child who will do it. As usual, Amanda Bennett has thought about a multitude of activities to do with this unit study. Each five days are packed with interesting things to learn and do.

On day one, the child will learn about the story of his/her name, discover what he was like when he was born, investigate his first family home, and develop a history of his arrival in the family. On the second day, the child will become familiar with the way that things change with time, discover the American presidents in office since his birth (here I will have to change that for the Prime Ministers of Canada), investigate the night sky on the evening of his birth and learn about historical events that happened on the same date of the birthday (which is something that I particularly like to do on a daily basis…*grin*). On day three, the child will become familiar with the fact that God makes each child unique, investigate some special features about him/her, discover fingerprints and how they work, and learn some history about events that happened on his/her special day. On day four, you will develop a timeline with your child about his/her life, describe the most important things in their life, review their accomplishments, and learn about historical events that happened on their birthday. Finally on the fifth day, the child will review past birthdays, investigate homes, dreams and goals, become familiar with Jeremiah 29:11 and learn more events that happened on the birthday.

Each day finishes with a special little prayer that you can say with your child. Many suggestions of books are made to make the day extra special. Also include in this wonderful unit study about the birthday of your child are wonderful lapbook activities to make the week before the birthday even more special.

I think this Download N Go Birthday Bonanza product will bring lots of fun in the days before the special day of your child. Having an excited kid in the house can get overwhelming sometimes and this wonderful product will help to go through the week before the BIG day for sure.

As for our family, I am looking forward for the month of February to come so I can spend some special time with our second son to make his Birthday lapbook.  He is turning 6th in 2010 and let me tell  you that he is looking forward to it!
