SlimebookThe Slime Book – more than 30 amazing recipes
Published at DK

About the book

Includes more than 30 borax-free, simple, safe, homemade slime recipes-from basic slime to edible, textured, glow-in-the-dark, and color-changing slime.

Kids will be mesmerized and "slimerized" by the book's gloopy, gooey, colorful slime recipes. The easy-to-follow recipes all use inexpensive, accessible, and safe everyday products.

Create monster slime with googly eyes, prepare for an eruption with volcanic slime, or tuck in to yummy edible chocolate slime. All the projects are shown with clear step-by-step images and a vibrant picture of the final slimy stuff. The science behind each slime creation is explained through fact boxes.

Recipes include cornstarch-and-water slime, fluffy slime made of shaving cream, gloopy slime created from shampoo and toothpaste, stretchy slime containing PVA glue, edible slime made with marshmallows, glitter slime, sand slime, magnetic slime... and more.

Making slime is currently one of the most popular trends for children, with some homemade slime videos reaching 30 million views.
+ With 30 recipes, it includes more variations than any slime book available.
+ All recipes use safe, readily available ingredients.
+ Science information boxes keep an educational element to the book without detracting from the fun.
+ Ideal for children ages 5-9 who are new to the slime trend or who are already obsessed with slime and looking for new, funky recipes.
+ Parents looking for a slime or activity book will like the safe, easily accessible ingredients and knowing that their child can play safely.

My Thoughts

Let take a trip back in time for a second or two.  Remember the 1970s?  That is when I was a child and I remeslimember the time when I got the new toy from Mattel called Slime.   It was gooey and disgustingly green.  It will ooze between your fingers and you could make a blob out of it.  And they came out with a purple one as well as some with trinkets in it.   Ahhhh! My mom totally disliked it but I loved it.   Not sure how much it cost back then but it must have been as pricey as the other stuff that is a rage nowadays.   Anyhow, I remember the Slime vividly and when I saw this book I knew it would be a great one to review just for my daughter.

This book contains over  30 recipes of slime to do based on either clear craft glue or PVA glue mixed with other ingredients like food coloring, glitter glue, beads, and so on.   There are two main sections in this book – Nonedible Slime and Edible Slime.  Wait! What?  Yes there is such a thing as edible slime believe it or not.  And us parents that keep saying to our kids – do not play with your food!  LOL  Oh well… I guess sometimes it is ok to play with the food.

In the nonedible slime section, you will find the basic recipe to make slime but you will also get recipes to make stretchy slime, fluffy slime, see-through slime, serious putty, starry slime, party slime, crunchy slime, smelly slime, glitter slime, popping slime, slime in all sort of colors, gold slime, unicorn slime, metallic slime, sand slime, monster slime, snow slime, fake snot, pompom slime, alphabet slime, winter wonderland slime, dinosaurs in amber, bubbling swamp slime, bubble slime, glow-in-the-dark slime.  The edible slime section will have recipes like the chocolate goo, the bear necessities made out of gummy bears, the striped slime made out of Starburst chewy candies and the “sticky, icky, tasty” slime made out of marshmallow.

91V3GgWW2LL91KuCmAdw7L

Some of these recipes look more fun to do that other ones.  But each are special in their own way.  I would personally stay away from the fake snot recipe but my daughter is having a Christmas theme at camp this summer and I think the Winter Wonderland Slime would be perfect for it!  I just need to find some snowflake confetti somehow….

The book would be perfect for this summer to allow you child to have fun in a different kind of way.  And who know…. maybe your child is a budding entrepreneur and will find a way to make this new passion of making slime into a small business.

The Slime Book is available at your favorite bookstore, even on amazon.ca and amazon.com.

What’s for Lunch before Halloween…

Today I decided to do something I saw on Pinterest.   Mummy dogs.image

But I didn’t have the Pillsbury package instead I had a box Tenderflake puff pastry in the freezer that I decided to use for our lunch.

Take the puff pastry out of the box and cut the square in sections.

Slowly wrap the hotdog (we had chicken ones) as though you are making a mummy!

IMG_1577

The older boys helped me making them.

Align the mummy dog on a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Cook 350 for about 25 minutes or so.

IMG_1576

While the mummy dogs were cooking, I decided to make some spider web dip with ketchup and mustard.

IMG_1580

Then Alexandre put the eyes on the mummies with mustard.

And voilĂ  mummy dogs waiting to be eaten by my four kids…

IMG_1586

A close up of one of the mummy dogs…    Don’t you think he looks scared to death?  Mmmmuuuaaaaahaahahahahaah!

IMG_1584IMG_1587

The kids had a wonderful lunch.  I think they liked the idea…  This could also be a wonderful lunch ideas when studying Egypt and the pyramids….

Next time, I am planning to use the Pillsbury package.   The dough won’t be as flaky as this one.  Still it was YummY for our tummies!

Inspiration through Pinterest

Recently, while pinning some interesting things on Pinterest from cooking to cake decorating as well as homeschool ideas or crafts to do, I stumbled upon a painting that inspired me.

image

I have no clue where this was taken…  but I loved it.

It reminded me of Matthew 6:26 in a way.

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not more valuable than they?  (NIV)

And I got inspired to do something similar to represent our family because I know that God has taken care of us and will continue to do so.

This morning I drew the birds….  I changed the colors to go with our house.   What do you think?

Baby it’s hot outside….

We are baking here in Ontario – it is definitively hot.  Extreme temperature to say the least.

A friend had this as her facebook profile picture.

I thought it was hilarious and wanted to share it…

Jesus sign made out of people

Someone had posted this on facebook.

I thought it was interesting…  Another world record maybe?

Apparently it was done in Aidlingen, Germany.

But I couldn’t find any information about it while searching on google…

So if you know any details on this – please feel free to let me know.

Drrring Drrring

What do you do when you loose power in your house and you need to call someone (or you are waiting for a phone call?).

We have found that without electricity our phones are not working… loose power – loose your phones.

Fortunately, we have learned that it is wise to have a regular phone handy.

Not too long ago, we lost power in our area for many hours.

When that’s happens, I go in the basement and come back with an older phone which is plugged into the phone line in our kitchen.

IMG_7516

Imagine the surprise of the kids when they heard the phone ringing that day – I was waiting for a phone call…   What’s this mommy?

Then it dawned on me that they have never realized what type of phone existed back in the 80s/90s.   LOL

So we showed it to them and explained how to use it.

We had a good laugh my husband and I but it also reminded us that our kids live in an age where technology is everywhere – iPhones, cellular, iPad and so on.

Both of us got introduced to electronic games with the ATARI, to computers with the VIC20 and Commodore 64, the internet without images only links.

Times has gone by real fast….  Not it is social media, ebay, news on the internet and so on.

What is the future has in store for us and our kids?  I don’t know.

What I know is that day my kids got a lesson on technology (science), discovered an older version of phone (history) and now my oldest knows where to find it if we loose power…

One thing I know for sure – we are not getting rid of the old phone.  Every once in a while it is very useful…

Chillaxing

Ultimate Blog Challenge

Today the challenge is to share what I do to relax and unwind.

I call that CHILLAXING.

When things are getting on my nerves – kids, house, reviewing, courses and so on, I find that the one thing that help me to renew my spirit is spending time to photograph God’s creation.  When I do so I find I get more in tune with my Savior and can marvel at how creative He was and still are.

When I see mushrooms growing on the path, frogs in the water,, lily pads in the lake, a bird dancing on the lily pads, marvelous flowers and a turtle sun bathing on a log, I wonder on how God created everything around us.

IMG_8371IMG_8395

IMG_8431IMG_8438

Seeing little chipmunks chasing each other while crossing a path – I see them praising God for making them so happy.

When I hear a woodpecker tapping at five in the morning I know that it is looking for breakfast.

When I get the opportunity to capture these little gems from my Father, I thank Him and enjoy them as much as I can.

Tomorrow is another day.   Who knows what it will bring?   I know that I have my camera and can capture God’s beauty for me.

Have you taken your camera while walking?   You might be missing some great opportunities.    Make sure you grab it next time and start expressing yourself with your pictures.

Note:  These pictures were taken while walking at our campground one beautiful day in June.    I indeed seen a red-winged bird dancing from lily pad to lily pad during this walk.  It was simply beautiful.

Will it Blend? The Blendtec marketing strategy

Ultimate Blog Challenge

Today the challenge is to share one of my favourite YouTube videos and share my thoughts about it.

imageWell for starter, I must admit to everyone that I don’t check out YouTube often.   Why?   Well probably because I don’t have much time on my hands to start checking it out.   OH!  I do look at some videos posted by friends on facebook but to start looking for myself… nope.   I homeschool my kids. I blog for pleasure. I camp with my family.  I manage a home.  Much more is on my shoulders.    I don’t want my kids to see me as a mom who is always on her PC.   Consequently, I have reduced my “workload” on the blogging part.

But I do have something to share.  When I started my Social Media Certificate at a college near by, the first course I had to take was Introduction to Social Media.   I thought I knew as much as I could aboimageut it and would not learn anything with it but to have the certificate, I needed to go through this course.   Boy was I surprised…

One of my assignment was to do a study on a company from the ones suggested.   One of them was Blentec which sells high quality blenders.   The particularity of this company is that the president himself is promoting the blenders with the Will it Blend? videos on YouTube.

He will take anything and everything to prove to the world that his blender will be able to chop ANYTHING….

One of my favourite videos is when he blends glowsticks.  Check it out!

The popularity of these videos can be question by many but if you truly look at it with a marketing perspective, you can see that it was ingenious.  Not only that the president himself is doing the demonstration but they are using day-to-day products to make their point.  Mind you, it breaks my heart when I see an iPad or other expensive products being shred to pieces but these demonstrations to show the power of the blender and the sturdiness of itsimage blades.

The authenticity and the craziness of these projects makes people talk and consider getting one of their blenders as it proves that it can definitively blend anything – even ice…   Think about it.   How many times have you tried to crush ice with your regular blender and it wasn’t doing a proper job.    Seeing the Blendtec in action with the president of the company as the scientist demonstrate the quality of the product and the fact that the president believes in it.    He really grabs the ownership of the product by doing these experiments and posting the videos on YouTube.

Agreed the price tag attached to the Blendtec is quite expensive but seeing the quality and power of these blenders you have to consider how long it will last as well.   I have heard many stories of people who had to purchase multiple regular blenders over the years because theirs would die on them….  If you do so 3-4 times, you end up spending about the same amount of money than what the Blendtec is worth.   Personally I believes in buying quality even though it means it would be more expensive at the purchase time because I know that in the long run the product will last a long time.

We own a Blentec wannabe.    We recently discovered that the blender we own was made by a company who was sued by Blentec for copyrights.   They lost.   When and if our blender breaks, my husband definitively wants to get a Blendtec.   He has seen the videos and he sold out to their quality.   Besides, he prefers their design over the one we have right now.

You can find more crazy blending projects on the YouTube Channel Will it Blend?

What would you like the Blentec president use the next time he makes a video?

What are your thoughts on this marketing strategy?

But wait… it isn’t complete without a

MOVIE???

Yes it is true a movie is in the works apparently.

More details can be found on the article from Mashable.

But just in case you feel like watching a little introduction….

Apparently the movie won’t be out until 2014…

I’m wondering if the Angry Birds craze will last that long.

What do you think?
