Superman & Lois: The Complete First Season Blue-Ray and DVD

I will admit something - we do not have cable television for what seems like forever.   We simply rely on Netflix, Disney+, AppleTV+ and Amazon Prime.

So I did not know about the television series entitled Superman & Lois.  Yes, I know, chocking when it comes to a family who usually follow all television shows and movies from either Marvel or DC.   (We are behind on some of these television shows as we do not have cable... but we do watch them.)

Anyhow, when I had the opportunity to promote the release of the Complete First Season of Superman & Lois in both Blu-Ray and DVD, I jumped on the opportunity.   Even my husband was unaware of this television series.

So this American superhero drama is based on the DC Comics characters Superman and Lois Lane and the series is set in the Arrowverse which means it share the continuity with the other television series of the franchise.

This is a brand new television series which premiered on February 2021 - in the midst of the pandemic.   A second season was ordered and should premiere in early 2022.

Premise: Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane return to Smallville with their sons, Jonathan and Jordan, where they are reacquainted with Lana Land, her husband Kyle Cushing and their daughter Sarah.   Their idyllic lives are upended when The Stranger enters as well as the secret experiments of Morgan Edge.

The Blu-Ray contains all 15 episodes from the first season in high definition as well as a digital code (US only).   The 15 episodes are:

  1. Pilot
  2. Heritage
  3. The Perks of Not Being a Wallflower
  4. Haywire
  5. The Best of Smallville
  6. Broken Trust
  7. Man of Steel
  8. Holding the Wrench
  9. Loyal Subjekts
  10. O Mother, Where Art Thou?
  11. A Brief Reminiscence In-Between Cataclysmic Events
  12. Through the Valley of Death
  13. Fail Safe
  14. The Eradicator
  15. Last Sons of Krypton
The special features included are:
  • Superman: Alien Spirit
  • Superman and Lois Legacy of Hope
  • Never Alone: Heroes and Allies
  • DC FanDome Panel: Superman & Lois.
One thing is for sure is that we are looking forward to watch this television series that we were not aware existed as soon as we have some time to do so.

This Blu-Ray and DVD television series, which is released on October 19th 2021,  is available at your favorite store even on Amazon.

Wonder Woman

a68310aef7b4404a9712f5313c6c781aWonder Woman – The Ultimate Guide to the Amazon Warrior
Published at DK

About the book

Celebrate 75 years of the legendary Amazon princess and explore all aspects of the world of Wonder Woman™, from the Golden Age to the Rebirth story line.

DC Comics: Wonder Woman: The Ultimate Guide to the Amazon Warrior showcases stunning Wonder Woman comic artwork and examines iconic characters as well as key issues and story lines. Packed with information on allies, enemies, locations, and much more, DC Comics: Wonder Woman: The Ultimate Guide to the Amazon Warrior is a must-have book for fans of DC Comics, Wonder Woman comics and characters, and the Justice League of America.

My Thoughts

This past year, we have been blessed with numerous good movies in theaters and one of them is definitively the Wonder Woman movie.   I thought it was a great movie to see and I think that Wonder Woman is a great comic book character.   But how does someone who is not into comics that much can learn more about this specific character?   How can a young girl who desire to learn more about Wonder Woman can do it without spending a ton of money in older comic books issues?   Well search no longer because DK has published a marvelous book where you will be able to read and discover all you need to know about Wonder Woman.

In this book, you will learn about the key themes and storylines in the comics as well as discover detailed character studies and much more.  The book provides information about Wonder Woman as well as her allies and enemies, her history, her mother, the Amazonian warrior, her apparel, and more.   Honestly I could provide a detailed list of what is covered in the book but there is so much in it that it would be long to write.   However, the following ages (in comic books a new series is referred to ages depending of the time period it was published): Golden Age (WWII period of time), Silver Age (late 50s to 60s), Bronze Age (70s and 80s), Dark Age (90s), Modern Age (2000s), New Age (after Flashpoint event (2010s).   With the reboot of the series which happened a few times through the years, it makes sense to divide the book into the specific ages.

The pages are pack with facts, images and information about the favorite Amazon of all time.  In it, you will be able to travel through the ages of the publications of Wonder Woman comics and learn the differences between them.

This book is perfect for anyone who loves Wonder Woman.  I would also like to highlight the fact that this book could be a great for a child who is struggling in reading but loves Wonder Woman.  I believe that putting the appropriate book in a child’s hand who is reluctant in reading can help tremendously in developing the love of reading.   This book can be a great one for someone who loves the character and desire to learn more about her.

Wonder Woman The Ultimate Guide to the Amazon Warrior is available for purchase at your favorite bookstore, even on amazon.ca and amazon.com.

Organized into five chapters from Central City to Lex Luthor's

My Thoughts

The Build Your Own Adventure sets, available through DK Canada, are very interesting for LEGO fans.  Not only does it contain a book which provides ideas to build interesting scenes but you will also find Lego pieces.   This specific Build Your Own Adventure is based on DC Comics Super Heroes and will give you a unique mini figure – Green Lantern.   This mini figure is only available in this LEGO Build Your Own Adventure set so if you desire to obtain it, you have to purchase this fabulous DK book.

The box contains 84 pieces of LEGO which will allow you to build Green Lantern and his spaceship.   Both design are exclusive to this book.   The book itself will allow you to obtain 50 building ideas linked to the world of DC Comics.   My kids are pretty fond of DC characters and knows quite a bit about them.   This book and the LEGO pieces will join the other kits they have.  And with a son who enjoys doing stop motion videos with his LEGO you can be sure that Green Lantern and his spaceship will join the rest of his mini figures.

The book itself is divided into five chapters which provides you with ideas to build your own stop motion movie.   Some pieces might be necessary in order to build the scenes but nevertheless there are fun building time and play time guaranteed with this book.

  • Chapter 1: Paradise Island
  • Chapter 2: Central City
  • Chapter 3: Icy Adventure
  • Chapter 4: Search for Superman
  • Chapter 5: Lex’s Lair

As you go through the book you will have a good visual as well informative text to help you build the scenes.  However, do not expect a step-by-step how to build it information because that is not available.  However, the images are pretty clear in showing you how it looks like.  The only step-by-step instructions available in the book are to build Green Lantern and his spaceship.

Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Dancing Groot

We loved Guardians of the Galaxy so much that we made sure that we would be in the theater when the 2nd movie would come out.   And let me tell you that everyone in the family enjoyed the movie very much.

imageSo when I saw that Hasbro had a dancing Groot I approached them to see if I could review it and they graciously send one my way.

This dancing Groot will bring the music of Guardians of the Galaxy live with his limb-shaking as well as its sound detecting features.   Dancing Groot is about 11.5 inches tall once you put him on the floor or a sturdy table.   He will play a clip from the Gardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 soundtrack and when the music starts Groot will immediately goes on dancing.   Now dancing here is more like shaking the trunk as well as his branches (aka arms) while turning slowly on itself. As amusing it is at first, the music will die at some point and Groot will stop moving.

However, there is an added touch to this Dancing Groot.  He can dance along with you music from your phone, table, or other device.  How?   When you will have to press and hold the leave on its leg for for about 15 seconds.   The figure will automatically enter in music detection mode.  This means that when Groot detects musci, he will dans until the music is no longer detected.

Its head and arms are poseable but the legs are pretty stuck in the same place. However,  be aware that this figure may cause boogie fever in your own body.  This will translate in a funny dance with Groot.

I think Dancing Groot is adorable for people of all ages but more specifically to the big fans of Groot everywhere.

The Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy Dancing Groot toy is available for purchase at your favorite toy store, even on amazon.ca and amazon.com.

Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy

61dhMn-W-fLMarvel Guardians of the Galaxy – The Ultimate Guide to the Cosmic Outlaws
Published at DK Canada

About the book

Find out everything you need to know about the heroic team of cosmic adventurers with Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy: The Ultimate Guide to the Cosmic Outlaws.

This comprehensive guide celebrates the exciting world of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, with a decade-by-decade history that charts all the incarnations of the group. The book examines iconic characters like Groot and Star-Lord, showcases key comic book issues, and explores important storylines. Packed with information on allies, enemies, locations, and much more, this book is a must-have for fans of Marvel comics.

Our thoughts

Since we knew that a second Guardians of the Galaxy was being made, we were waiting “patiently” for it.  We have loved the first one and enjoyed discovering the characters of Guardians of the Galaxy.  So you can imagine that we were there on opening day when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 came out in theater.  We took our regular routine off for the day and brought our four kids with us to see this long awaited movie.  And let me tell you that we were not disappointed with it.  It was as good if not better than the first one.

So when I saw the ultimate guide on the Guardians of the Galaxy published at DK Canada, I knew that it would be a popular book to read in my household.   I requested the book immediately to review and when it arrived it literally flew out of my hands….  My kids grabbed it and hid in their rooms to read through the pages of it.   I literally had to request it back so I could write my review…..   Because if not I might have forgotten to write my review.

This book will highlight ALL you ever wanted to know about the Guardians of the Galaxy from the 31st century and more.    Numerous characters of all the different series of comic ever been published of the Guardians are presented through the pages of this book whether hero or villain.

A1DEZ1jkJvLA1Ih6cGwKuL

Needless to say this book is popular in my  household.   There is so much information in it about the Guardians of the Galaxy that you could almost create a trivia game on them just for fun.   What I particularly like is the fact that this book is interesting for my kids even the one who is more reluctant in reading.    When it comes to reading, I find that if the subject of a book is interesting for a person (adult or child), this person won’t have any issues in reading it.   And this is exactly what the various titles of ultimate guide books that DK offers to fans of all sorts.  As you might have imagine the comic heroes books are popular for us but they have other books on many other subjects that could be interesting for anyone.

Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy is available for purchase at your favourite bookstore, even on amazon.ca and amazon.com.

Heroes and Villains Boutique

dk-heroes-and-villains-button-185x185

Whether you are rooting for Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman or Lex Luthor, choosing sides with Captain America or Iron Man in Civil, or making a choice between the light and the dark side of the force, this pop culture fueled boutique from DK Canada should fan the flames of your fandom.   The Heroes & Villains Boutique has all the books you might want to read more about your favorite super-hero or villain.

51m9mv5h8tLCaptain America Ultimate Guide to the First Avenger

If there is one hero we didn’t had a book about him it was definitively Captain America.   One day my son Dominic asked me if DK had a book on Cap, I wasn’t sure about it so I emailed DK and asked them.  Their reply was that a book will be soon available for the Heroes & Villains Boutique.

I  find that the Ultimate Guide books that we have received in the past to be packed with information on a specific hero in the universe of Super-Heroes.   This book will allow you to read quite a bit on the First Avenger – Captain America as it is packed with information about friends, enemies, and storylines, this guide explores the exciting and rich history of the character.  Through the pages of the book you will follow Steve Rogers' journey from the sickly and small Army volunteer to the iconic leader of the Avengers.   Also, you will discover his biggest adventures, battles, allies, and foes. Marvel's Captain America: The Ultimate Guide to the First Avenger focuses on some of the character's most famous comic book arcs, starting from the 1941 debut of Captain America Comics #1 to modern day.

91NIvZcxH7LA1oGhtqzlpLA1yovMJtJ1L

When it comes to reading, I find it important to have a book that you enjoy.   This past year, one of my kids had to read a book for Awana and write a little report on it.   It took forever to finish the story and write the report.   But give him a book on a super-hero and he will read it thoroughly non-stop.   If you have something that you enjoy reading, then you can easily go through a book.   And for some boys reading novels is just not appealing but something about super-heroes will trigger their interest.   So if you have a Captain America fan in your family, I suggest that you consider this title as a motivation to practice their reading skill.

51GJiwPPmGLBatman A Visual History

Batman: A Visual History follows the DC Comics Super Hero from his 1939 beginnings as a crime-fighting vigilante to his present status as a worldwide cultural icon approaching his 75th anniversary.   Essentially, the book celebrates Batman's greatest stories and the writers and artists that created them. It also charts the careers of the Super Heroes and super-villains — Robin, the Justice League, the Joker, Catwoman — associated with Gotham City's Dark Knight. The book will also present the debuts of every key Batman character as well as some details of Batman movie and TV series, both live-action and animated.

Finally, the last but not the least book I received to review is Marvel Year by Year A Visual Chronicle.   One again a book like this will provide much information about loved characters from the Marvel comics - from your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to the uncanny X-Men, Marvel Comics has been entertaining people for over 70 years with its fantastic characters and engaging stories.

Marvel Year by Year outlines the evolution of Marvel Comics from its beginnings to today, including all of Marvel's publishing landmarks, displayed clearly on a month-by-month timeline. It highlights the debuts of key characters, the comic geniuses that created them, and the real-life events that inspired them, like the Vietnam War, the atom bomb, and the Space Race.

The book is packed with original comic book art featuring numerous classic covers.   This is a fully revised and updated edition which includes 32 new pages that cover the years since its original edition.  Thought the pages of this book you will find in-depth, unparalleled information about this remarkable institution, its characters, and the creators.

The book also comes in a slip case and contains two stunning exclusive prints.   The book would also make a great gift for someone who is a Marvel fan and who desires to learn more about the history of the company and the evolution of its comics.

As you can see these books can be a beautiful gift for someone you love who likes either DC or Marvel.  The art through these books is stunning and it is very interesting to see the difference in how comics were designed back in the 1940s compared to nowadays.  I know my own kids really enjoy reading more about their favorite super-heroes and comic companies.   And these books will definitively bring more reading opportunity for them.

The Heroes & Villains Boutique has a lot more to offer.  Check it out today!

Be a SUPERHERO for CHEO

Not too long ago, my husband and I discover the theme of the CHEO telethon this year – “Be a Superhero for CHEO”.    At that moment, an idea germinated in my husband’s head.  He asked me what I thought about possibly doing a Comic Book Fundraising Sale for CHEO.   I thought it was a marvelous idea.

That week, we contacted the CHEO Foundation and didn’t know what to expect from it.   The person quickly contacted us and absolutely loved the idea.  Apparently, all the fundraising organized for CHEO is done by people like us.   So we quickly talked to our four kids who got excited as much as us and we started preparing for spreading the word on this special sale.

Our son Dominic created the poster below and we advertised on kijiji, usedottawa and craiglist.

We emailed comic book stores to ask them if they could promote it.   Then less than two weeks ago, we thought of asking radio stations in town if they could promote the fundraising for CHEO in their event pages.   So far, we have only positive comments from people responding to our request.   This week, we received a call from a reporter with MetroNews because they wanted to do an interview.   She came and took pictures and this morning – KABOOM! – three of my kids made the front page at the newsstand copies near bus stop throughout the city.  A cousin of my husband send me the picture via her cell phone.

And if you go to MetroNews online you can also read the story.   (Thought I much prefer the photos in the paper edition!)

UPDATE (May 31st)  image

Yesterday morning, the phone rang.   It was a reporter from CTVNews asking if we could do an interview for the new that night.  He had seen the MetroNews article and wanted to help to spread the word.

So that afternoon, for 2 hours they prepare the 2 minutes for the news that night.  Needless to say that it was a great homeschooling opportunity for our kids.

The article on the CTVNews website can be found here: http://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/family-sells-massive-comic-collection-for-cheo-1.1846255

The video can be seen here: http://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/video?clipId=373469&binId=1.1164511&playlistPageNum=1.

**************************

Needless to say the kids are excited.   And we have friends who will come and help.   The CHEO Bear will be there as well as the CHEO lemonade stand.   The League of Super-Heroes are also donating their time and will offer people to take pictures with them for a donation to CHEO.   It’s going to be a great day!

So mark your calendar – June 7th from 9am to 5pm.   Come and buy some comics.  Support CHEO and be a superhero for them!
