Well-Planned Day 2012-2013
Created by Home Educating Family

 About the Planner

Organize your busy days all in one place with this beautifully-designed planner. The Well-Planned Day is a family homeschool organizer, designed especially for moms. This effective, yet easy-to-use format will ensure that each day at your home is smooth and profitable.

My Thoughts

This planner is a lifesaver for me.   I have discovered it a few years ago and every year since then I get a copy.   It allows me to track down everything that we do during the school year and have a clear idea of the progress the kids are doing.   The weeks are spread out on two pages with the Monday to Friday columns separated in subjects – Bible, Math, Science, History, English and black ones for other subjects like French for us…  Each subject has four lines which is totally perfect for us as we have four kids.   Each kid’s progress is written down on the page.    I also have the possibility to write down the information for special activities like swimming and Awana at the bottom of a column.

I received a PDF version of The Well-Planned Day and this year, I have the possibility of update the file on my computer as well.   It is a good habit to take to update on the PC so you can have a backup of what has been done so far.    You never know what could happen to your paper version so have a backup on your PC could reduce the stress of not finding your paper version one day.

When getting the Well-Planned Day, you will get a full year color planner of over 230 pages.   It covers from July 2012 to June 2013 so it can be useful for year long homeschoolers or non-year long ones.   You could manage your home with it with cleaning schedules, greeting cards registry, monthly budgets and so on.  You can also organize your holidays with activities and schedules, gift giving, and so on.   You get a four student class plans and time schedules.  You can organize your week with assignments, priorities, prayer requests, menu and notes.  You can view your month in a glance with field trips, activities and books to read.  Finally you also have the possibility of keeping attendance, progress reports and report cards.

As usual, the planner is packed with insightful homeschool articles and tips to encourage you during the school year.  This year, you will also find a read through the Bible section to encourage you in your family worship.

Though I don’t use everything that I find in this planner, I really enjoy having it to track our progress during the year.   It has been an important tool for me in the past few years.

Would you like to check out the Well-Planned Day?  Simply go to the website to see how the Well-Planned Day can be a lifesaver for your homeschool!

I highly recommend a planner of some sort when you are homeschooling your kids.  I am sold out to the Well-Planned Day since the day I discovered it.   I wish that it would be available at our homeschool convention in April and I could purchase it there.

The Well-Planned Day is available for the price of 24.95$ for the spiral version.

The Well-Planned Day is also available as online for the price of 65$ annually.   It also comes with a free mobile app so you can update it anywhere you are.   One of these days I would love to check out the online version and see how it could be beneficial for us as homeschoolers.

Our Thoughts

As I mentioned yesterday in my post on the Well-Planned Day Family Homeschool Planner, today I am reviewing the Well-Planned Day Student Planner.

My son, Alexandre, is 10 years old this year and starting grade 5.   I have decided to make him learn to track his own progress during our school year so he can become even more independent.    Home Educating Family Publishing has sent me a pdf version of the planner for him to use.   He was quiteIMG_0229 happy  and excited when he saw it.

Once again we printed the planner and binded it with our machine.   Again, you could decide to put the planner in a regular binder if you prefer.

This is our first experience with a student planner in our homeschool.   Alexandre used to have an agenda while he going to school 5 years ago but this was mostly used for communication between the teacher and the parents.    This time, I want to teach Alexandre to take the responsibility in tracking his progress in the various subjects we will be covering during the year.   (Shhh!  don’t tell him but I am also tracking in my Well-Planned Day Family Homeschool Planner so I  can compare between the two…)   So far, he has days where he forgets to write down certain things.   I explain to him that it is essential to make sure that he writes everything so that he is not forgetting any.    Mind you this is his first time doing it so I am highlighting the things he forgot.    It has been two-three weeks since he started using it and I must admit that he is doing a great job.     One week, he had not written anything.  It was the week when we went to Toronto about two weeks ago.   I asked why he hadn’t written anything and he says matter of factly “But we didn’t do school mom.  We were away.”  “Yes I said but what did we do?”  “We went to the zoo, pick some peaches/nectarines and went to the museum of science.”  “True and what do we call these?” He looked at me wondering what I meant and then a smile beamed in his face “Field Trips!”.   To this he picked up his planner and proceeded to write down what we did that week.

The Student Planner is different than the Well-Planned Day Family Planner.   You can see the whole week on two pages but you only have to write down your own progress.   Each day has about 12 lines on which your student can write.   An inspirational quote is also found in these two pages as well as a scripture reading and question and answer on Christianity.   The week-end has also some space to write down activities but only five lines are available for it.     Each month starts with a monthly calendar on which the child can include the field trips and activities planned.   At the end of the planner, a reference section is also included.  In there you will find information on grammar must-know details like parts of speech, punctuation, capitalization and misspelled words, two pages with math information, two pages for US students, a map of the world and its countries as well as information about space.

I think having this Student Planner will teach him a new level of responsibility. He even went back in July and wrote down the activities that we did including the VBS he attended.   Alexandre is always taking his Student Planner with him when he starts his day.    I would strongly encourage parents to teach their child about becoming more responsible with their time and their work to be done by having them tracking their own homeschool progress.

The Student Planner is priced at 12.95$ for the printed edition and 9.95$ for the digital edition.  Two different editions are available one for the guys and one for the girls.   Simply go to the Home Educating Family Publishing website to order.

    My Thoughts

I received the PDF version of the Well-Planned Day – Family Homeschool Planner for 2011-2012.   I prefer this version of the product as I can immediately download it and print it at my convenience.   It save on shipping.   We also own a binding machine and once I have the planner printed, I bind it so it can be handy.   I could also opt to put it in a binder if I prefer but the binding machine is very handy for us.

I am not a stranger with this planner as I have been using it for the past two-three years.   However, this year our financial situation was difficult and I decided to ask for the possibility of reviewing the product in August.   I was pleased to receive a positive answer from Home Educating Family Publishing as it remove some worries I had on how I would track our homeschool this year.

What I particularly love from this planner is that I can see in a glance what the kids have achieve during the week.  I have four kids and each of them have a line to themselves for each subjects.    The main subjects highlighted in the planner are Bible (for us I focus this section for AWANA time), Math, History, Science, and English.   I would like to see a subject called Foreign Languages in the future which could cover French, Spanish and Latin.   Many homeschoolers are studying foreign languages so this would be perfect I think.   However, there are an extra subject lines for four kids as well as three more spaces to include information for your day.   I usually write our French lessons in the extra subject line and the swimming/Awana at the bottom of the page.

The way the planner is set up, you will be able to glance at your full week in two pages.   The main days of the week where homeschool usually happens are predominant in these pages.  On the right side of the planner, you can scribble the weekly priorities for the family, write down your menu (thought this area is quite small I would suspect it is only for supper time), and write down the week-ends activities at the bottom of the page.   Also included in your week, you will have a scripture, a motivation thought as well as a weekly catechism which contains a question and answer based on the Christian faith.

Each month starts with a monthly calendar where you can jolt down the monthly activities as well as a page to enter the books read, the field trips and/or enrichment activities and a section to keep track of your finances.  Then you have a two pages monthly devotional.  It is essentially a text that you can read and re-read anytime during the month which will encourage you in your homeschool journey.    A shopping list page is also included for each month in the planner.

At the beginning of the planner, you will also find a class plan for four students.   I am still trying to figure out my schedule with four kids being homeschool this year.   I have a motivated Junior Kindergarten, a grade one, a grade two and a grade five this year.   I have to figure out how my mornings and afternoons will be before I use these pages.

I really love my Well-Planned Day – Family Homeschool Planner 2011-2012.   I wouldn’t go through a school year without it.   It is one of the products that I absolutely need to have.   I have encountered other planners in the past and so far this specific planner is the one that answer most of my needs.    I find it complete for our family and even adaptable for our school year.

My only disappointment at this time would be the fact that the digital edition of the product is not cheaper than the printed version.  Their other products have a difference of price and I am wondering why it is not the case with the Well-Planned Day – Family Homeschool Planner.    On another note, this planner is packed with interesting things so it is well worth the price.    My wishes for the future would be to find a similar product in French.   There are many French homeschoolers out there and I think it would be a great product for them.   Translating this planner shouldn’t take much time I think (apart from the devotionals that is).

The Well-Planned Day – Family Homeschool Planner is available for purchase for the price of 24.95$ whether in the printed or digital version.

Tomorrow, I will post a review on the Well-Planned Day Student Planner which my son is using this year to learn to track his own progress in our homeschool.
