Resolve Tip Exchange

image

Having kids often means that you can expect to find stain on their clothes.   But for us – family of six people who enjoy camping and fishing – it also means a wide variety of stains going from the well-known grass stains to other stains like mustard, ketchup, bbq sauceIMG_9197 and so on.   Like I mentioned my family loves to go fishing whenever they can.   The campground were we are parked this year has a lake and when we are there my husband would go with the kids and give me a couple of hours of quiet time.   But when they come back with fish, it also means it’s time to make filets and often (not to say every time) I can expect to have some fish blood on my husband shirt (and my sons as well).   Sigh.     I find blood, mustard and ketchup to be my pet peeves when it comes to stubborn stains.  The most common stain I have to deal with is mostly the spaghetti sauce stain all year round but in the summer time I would say it could be fish guts/blood stains.

Though I have found a magical product for the tough stains on my whites, I still have to fight sometimes for the light colored clothes.  Here’s a few of my tips and tricks when it comes with dealing with stains.

For my whites, I love to use the a bleach pen that I can only find at a store near my place.  Since I discovered this product, I find that I was able to save numerous whites from untreatable stains.    This product is such a life saver for me that when I am at my last one in stock, I swing by the store and purchase a few more just in case I will need them.   I guess I could also use plain old bleach directly on the stain but I find it cumbersome to deal with the bleach bottle.

For light colors though I use two different products – one being the Resolve Oxi-Action (formely Spray and Wash Dual Power – which I didn’t realize until now that It was Resolve….) and the other one being a detergent booster that is also good for craft with the kids.     And when the stains are very rebellious, I also use the a special gel stick.

Resolve® Laundry Stain Remover wants to help moms across Canada to share tips, advice and how to tackle stains.   For this specific reason, the Resolve® Tip Exchange has been launched in order to allow people from throughout the country to share stain removal tips and advice and also to seek out advice on a stubborn stain you are trying to get rid of.  You can go easily to the website (http://tips.powerofresolve.com/) and share your own stain removing tips.  By taking a few minutes of sharing with others your ideas on how to remove some tough stains you can be entered in a chance to win one of twelve weekly prizes of $250 and a grand price of $5000 (from August 16th to August 30th, 2013).   Wouldn’t it be nice to get a gift like this just because you shared some tricks on how to remove stains.   Your tips can be either written or in a video format.   So hurry up and swing by the Resolve Tip Exchange in order to have a possibility to be a winner!

Like I mentioned before I had not realized that the Spray and Wash product I was using had changed its name to Resolve Oxi-Action.    Though I have used the gel form of the Resolve product, I look forward to use the In-Wash powders that I am expecting any day soon.   I am always open to new products that could help me deal with stain a bit better for every member of my family.

And with four kids who love to do dissections and learn more about how fish and other creatures bodies work (yes the two oldest love to check the stomach of fish to see what they ate) and with the high school years pointing in our homeschool horizon with more dissections opportunities (a friend recently mentioned she will tell me when she will deal with her ducks so we can go check their anatomy), I sense that I will have more stains to deal with in my future.

UPDATE – August 26th, 2013

Last week I have received my two containers of Resolve Oxi-Action – one for any kind of clothes and one specific for the whites.

The Resolve Oxi-Action In-Wash Stain Remover is a great product that will help you to remove the toughest stains in the was.   You can choose to pre-treat the stains that you have spotted or simply use it in the wash itself.   I have used it with light colored clothes that had dirt stains on it and they came out clean.   This meant I didn’t have to put them through the wash cycle again.  Apparently this specific product is fabulous for coffee, grape juice, blueberries, spaghetti sauce, mustard, ring around the collar, grass, ink, wine, tea and mud.

The Resolve Oxi-Action Crystal White is the first one I tried out one day – I had a pile of whites to wash and some had stains on it.    Various types of stain if you know what I mean.   Usually I go through a pretty quick routine to deal with my whites but this time I decided to pour some Resolve Crystal White and see what it will do.   Surprisingly enough, when I opened the washer, I was almost blinded by the whites…  Okay not that much but I did find my whites were whiter than usual (even with my Borax).   So I was very pleased with the end results.  And the stains were inexistant – completely gone.  Horray!   I had found another product that would do miracles on my whites.

In conclusion, I am quite pleased with both products.   I will definitively consider purchasing them if needed.   Thanks you Resolve Tip Exchange and Mom Central Canada for the opportunity to try them out!

Help YOP Help You!

Meet Alexandre – my oldest child who turned twelve this summer.  He is not a teen per say at this point in time but already you can see the teenage attitude showing up in him.   Don’t take me wrong, I love my son to bits and pieces but when something is not going as he has planned, we know it quite rapidly.   Alexandre is very useful at home and I think he has the gift of service in his body.   There are days when he wakes up the wrong side of the bed but generally speaking he is very engaged in the family and helps a lot around the house.    Being a soon-to-be teenager also means that he eats more than when he was younger.   To encourage his growing up and good eating habits I always try to have healthy snacks around the house for a mid-morning break from our homeschool.   Yogourt is also part of our regular diet for everyone in the family.

Do I struggle with getting the kids out of the door sometimes – you bet.   Whether it is for bringing them to swimming lessons or to get to their Awana activities on Thursday evenings, I sometimes have to push them to make sure they are ready to go.   You see the drive to these activities are about 20-30 minutes and we have to make sure we do not forget anything before leaving…  Once someone in the house had forgotten to grab the bag with towels which meant we arrived late to the swimming lesson.  Other times, it’s the water bottles that are left in the entrance of the house.  So yes, even though I plan in advance it happens that we forget things every once in a while. This coming school year, we will also participate to a coop on the same day as the swimming lessons which means we need to be at the location early in the morning with lunches and all that is needed for swimming for nine in the morning.   So it will be interesting to see how we will manage the get out of the house with four kids and a ton of things to bring.  Nevertheless I think we will survive the Wednesdays.   The beauty of homeschooling our kids is that anytime we want we could decide to have a pajama day (though not on Wednesdays or Thursdays…) and we know our snacks will be fresh and cold when it’s time to eat them.

One such snack that it popular for school lunches and snacks is the first drinkable yogurt in Canada – YOP from Yoplait.   This yogurt is completely drinkable and on-the-go in a convenient packaging that will please moms and kids alike.   If you are my age you will recall that YOP imagehas been around for a while and it makes lunch preparation a bit easier.   With the new school year around the corner, why not start it with some help? Help YOP Help You!   The drinkable  yogurt contains essential nutrients like calcium, vitamins D, B12 and B2 as well as magnesium.   It’s a great source of energy for your teen who need to stay awake in class and want to perform in sports as well as in their studies.image

YOP is available in a wide variety of popular flavours - Strawberry, Raspeberry, Blueberry, Strawberry-Banana, Vanilla Tropixs, Banana Tropixs, Peach Tropix, and the new Orange Blast which will be coming soon – and sizes.  However, please note that not all merchants and grocers offer all flavours and sizes.

If your teen like to have something fruity as a snack or drink, I would encourage you – moms – to discover the possibilities that YOP can have for your teen.   Make wise choices this coming year when it comes to packing the lunches and the snacks for your kids.   Scratch the heavy sugary drink and chose something that will help your teen to growth healthy in the process – yogurt.   YOP can help your teen to become a high achievers or just a stay-awakers during the long days at school participating to sports, lessons, student council, volunteering and more.

Tomorrow – August 7th, 2013 – I encourage you to swing by the  Life Made Delicious Facebook Page in order to grab a free coupon (while supplies last) for your teen to try YOP at his/her earliest convenience.

YOP is available at your favourite grocery store throughout Ontario (and Canada!).

Disclosure – I am participating in the Help YOP Help You Blogger Campaign by Mom Central Canada. I received compensation as a thank you for participating and for sharing my honest opinion. The opinions on this blog are my own.

Muskoka Woods Summer Camp 2013

Spring has finally arrived and with it many parents are making plans for the summer months…   What will your kids be doing?  Have you thought of registering them for camp?   Did you know that they can have a wonderful time away from you and still learn things at the same time?    Camp is a great way to spread a child’s wings and become more independent in the process.  Surrounded by nature and qualified counsellors, a child can discover skills that he/she didn’t know was in him/her and find something they might be passionate about.

When I was a child, my mom wasn’t working but that didn’t stop my parents to get me involved in activities for me to meet other kids.   You see I was an only child and they thought it would be good for me to be involved in various activities.   I was involved in the girl guides from a young age spending 11 4-27-2013 10;37;45 AMyears in the movement and 2 years as a leader.  I went to a snow camp while in grade 3 with all the classes at the same camp.   I also had the opportunity to attend various camps while in the girls guides (winter and summer camps).   But on top of these, I had the privilege to attend various summer camps at two places in Quebec – Le Petit Bonheur in the Laurentians and La Perdrière at St-Donat, QC.  While writing this, I discovered that La Perdrière is now closed which saddens me a bit thinking of the fun time I had there doing horseback riding, excursions, archery, sailing, rick climbing from the face of a rock and more.

4-27-2013 10;38;32 AM4-27-2013 10;30;50 AM

While in high school during the 80s, I attended the private camp of the Collège L’Assomption at Minerve which has closed it’s doors in 1990.   From that camp I remember the cabins, the assembly in the morning and evening, the challenges (piste d’hébertisme) in the woods where we needed cooperation and creativity to clear the course and much more.  And to conclude my adventure in summer camp, I even worked one year at Camp St-Donat during my teenage years.

I have fond me memories of my time while going to camp.  There I learned things that I would never had done while staying in Montreal or Repentigny like archery, sailing, horseback riding and rock climbing.   While in the girl guides we also went through day adventures of walking long distance and learning to survive in the forest.   We built shelters and learned more about the nature but identifying plants, bugs, and animals.    I remember learning about identifying the animals by the tracks, learning which plants are good to eat, and predicting the weather based on how the birds fly or the colors of the sky at dusk.

Summer camp as a girl guide was full of excitement too because we would usually have a special theme for camp.   One year, while I was a group leader, we had to cook an international meal for our leaders over the fire table we had build.   Each team had a different country and we had to decorate, cook the meal, and present it like the restaurant of that country.    Below are pictures of our campsite that year and that international supper thing was the highlight of it.  Each team had worked particularly hard and it was a sort of competition between us.  We had to serve numerous plates from appetizers to dessert within the guidelines provided.  Everything had to be a recipe from the country assigned to us.    I remember making menus for that special night in order to let our guests know what they would have for supper.     And the memories I have of the famous fire table we were building every time we would go to summer camp – trying to stir the fire by blowing and the ash going up in the air and down in your spaghetti sauce.  Who cares about a little bit of ash in your sauce anyway….  we just stirred it and it was delicious.

4-27-2013 10;36;09 AM4-27-2013 10;34;47 AM

Another memory I have when I was a girl guide would be when we did a military camp.   One day, our parents came to visit and they would be immediately arrested for trespassing.   We were brought to identify them to see if they could come.  I remember one teammate decided to not recognize her parents and made them wait a bit in the “prison” we had set up.   It was bold and it was hilarious…   That day we knew we would have an inspection from the leader while showing our parents our campsite.   Suddenly, someone in my team realized we had forgotten to was one pot.   We panicked for a while because we knew that the leaders and parents were on their way.   Someone quickly decided that if we would go far enough in the woods, we could hide the forgotten pot until the inspection was passed.   We all thought it was a great idea and the pot “disappeared” from view.    Lo and behold, some leaders decided to "inspect” deeper in the woods and we were all worried about them discovering our strategy.   We got caught and suffered the consequences like in the military with extra chores to do that day.    We learned a lesson that day discovering that we couldn’t fool our leaders.

I have four kids and part of me wants them to experience camp without the parents.   They go to Awana and the Sparks have a one day camp for the kids who complete the three books in SPARKS.   Last year, my second son went to his day camp and this year my third son will be going.   I know that it will be a fun day for him.   This year we have decided to send my two oldest kids to a Christian camp close to our city for the first time - the oldest son for a whole week and my second son for a period of four days.   I know that they will have a blast while at camp and will look forward for the next year.   To prepare them for their time there, we have decided to register them to an archery course for a few weeks.  They have been enjoying these and look forward to practice their skills while at camp this summer.  Let me tell you that the bows and arrows I have used back in the 80s are nothing compare to the ones they are using at their archery lessons!   This activity has gotten sophisticated as the years went buy!

Today as I remember the fun times I had at camp, I would like to encourage you in registering your kids for camp this summer. It is an experience of a lifetime and will bring them fond memories as they grow up.   One of the place that looks like a great place for kids would be Muskoka Woods.  I have heard of the place but never visited it as it is far from our location (+6 hours).  But this camp is located about 3 hours from downtown Toronto, ON.   They provided transportation from specific locations if needed.  Let me present you the fabulous summer camp of Muskoka Woods.

imageWhat is Muskoka Woods?

The vision of Muskoka Woods is to inspire youth to shape their world.   It is a Christian Youth Resort that welcomes all young people to life changing experiences.   The kids will choose from water sports and athletics, media and arts, leadership and team building programs.   It operates all year round on Lake Rousseau as a non-profit youth organization.  The staff is selected based on their trustworthy character, ability with children and love for their Creator.  Muskoka Woods is a safe place where kids grow mentally, physically, spiritually and socially.  It is a place where creativity reigns, friendship flourish and confidence grows.

Where is located Muskoka Woods and what does it look like?

Muskoka Woods sprawls across 1,100 wooded acres with 2,800 feet of stunning frontage on sparkling Lake Rosseau. It’s a perfect mix of untouched nature, modern buildings, and state-of-the-art athletic facilities. In addition to cabins, dining halls and meeting rooms, we’ve got a new purpose-built Leadership Studio, a concert hall, guest lounge and boathouse.

What kind of activities does my kids will do?

imageIf it’s sports you’re after, they have 12 tennis courts, two beach volleyball courts, a 15,000-square- foot indoor gym, 50-foot climbing wall, an 80,000-square-foot indoor and outdoor action sports park, dedicated gymnastics facility, the largest and highest ropes course in Canada, three playing fields and a golf training centre with driving range, putting green, and chipping green.    WHEW!   Just reading this, I realize that camp has changed tremendously since I was young…    The calm waters of Lake Rousseau will also provide all the water activities at the camp.

Bottom line, your child won’t have time to be morose and down while being at Muskoka Woods.  He/she will have plenty to do with all these activities: archery, arts & crafts, B3, badminton, ball hockey, basketball, beach volleyball, BMX, cake decorating, canoeing, image club volleyball, culinary, dance, digital photography, dirt camp, fashion design, fine art, fitness, flag football, free period, free swim, freeride, golf, graphic design, guitar, gymnastics, Hollywood North, horseback riding, kayaking, kids on the water, kitchen sink, leisure sports, longboarding, markmanship, mountain biking, music recording, paintball, power cheerleading, radio broadcasting, rage, RC car racing, ropes course, sailing, skateboards & scooters, soccer, stand up paddle-boarding, tennis, trampoline, tubing, tv broadcasting, ukulele, video production, vocal performance, wake X, wakeboarding, waterskiing, wellness, WILD, and windsurfind.   Reading this makes me want to be a child again just to experience some of these fun activities.  Though I have done horseback riding, sailing and archery I would love to try out trampoline, do the rope course, wakerboarding or a few other ones.      I would also definitively try my hand at archery since it has been decades I did that.

imageimageimageimage

Where do the kids sleep?

At Muskoka Woods you will find clean and fully-enclosed cabins with bunk bed-style sleeping arrangements.   Each camper is responsible for the tidiness of their cabin during the week.

imageimage

What will they eat while at camp?

imageAH! the food…. remind me of my days at camp where we often had sheperd’s pie on the menu which might explain why I dislike that meal nowadays.   From what I can see, food at camp as changed quite a bit.   Apparently the meals are served in a buffet-style three times a day in addition of snack times.   The buffet will feature a variety of tasty options which will allow the most picky eater, the vegetarian or the ones who have a huge appetite to be satisfied with the food they will ingest.   Check out a sample menu below!

This sounds interesting but…

I`m sure your child won’t have time to miss you with all the activities and fun time he/she will have at Muskoka Woods.    I know that I had a great time while attending camp while I was younger and I can’t wait to hear what my boys have to say of their experience this summer.

OXY Clear it Up Sweepstakes

photo2

OXY is celebrating clear skin with the OXY Clear it Up Sweepstakes.  As many of us know OXY offers a system of products, and they have products that appropriately suit your skin type and blemish-severity (a little bit to a lot!). The easy-to-use factor and the convenience of the system are two attributes that make it a desirable solution to anyone with problematic skin.

MY household is not protected against the arrival of pimples.   Usually it happens in your teenage years and having four kids at home, I suspect that we will hear drama in the years to come.    My husband had a big problem of acne when he was younger and still struggle with the fact that his skin is extremely greasy.   Me on the other hand, I did struggle with the occasional pimple when I was younger but I suffer of extreme dryness of the skin since I entered menopause.   My husband always said that he hopes that our kids will be more like me than him when they entered the ages when acne will be a problem.

My oldest son is in his pre-teen years and so far you can see that sometimes he would have some acne problems.  But we got him some OXY products immediately last year when we saw that he was starting to have some issues with his facial skin.

As part of the blogging tour about the Oxy Clear It Up Sweepstakes, I have received some interesting products.

deepCleaningVanishingTreatmentThe Deep Cleaning Acne Vanishing Treatment

OXY’s Acne Vanishing Treatment Lotion is clinically proven to kill acne bacteria in 24 hours. This Vanishing Treatment contains Microsphere Technology which absorbs oil, blends readily and diffuses light to give skin a smoother experience. OXY’s unique bio-function complex reduces redness and is suitable for all skin types, while also containing moisturizing SymCalmin® to soothe and calm skin.

The Deep Cleaning Daily Facial CleanserdeepCleaningFacialCleanser

OXY’s Deep Pore Daily Facial Cleanser penetrates deep into pores to remove dirt, oil and dead skin allowing oxygen in to help skin breathe, working rapidly to clear breakouts. Medicated with 2% Salicylic Acid, this enhanced formula now contains a unique ingredient which allows the acne medication to be quickly absorbed into the skin to better fight acne. OXY’s Deep Pore Daily Facial Cleanser works on contact to fight acne as quickly as possible and now contains Chamomile Extracts to soothe irritated skin.

deepCleaningMedicatedAcnePadsThe Deep Cleaning Medicated Acne Pads

OXY’s Deep Cleaning Medicated Acne Pads are clinically proven to continuously fight acne for 24 hours. They instantly remove dirt, oil and dead skin and keep bacteria away to let oxygen through helping your skin breathe, while oil-free moisturizers soothe skin and prevent over-drying. OXY’s Deep Cleaning pads also contain Salicylic Acid an effective, medicated treatment that penetrates the skin and hair follicles even after rinsing leaving a fresh, healthy looking complexion.

Our Thoughts

I first asked my husband to try out these products for me.  Though he is not as satisfied as something else he now uses, he always used OXY in the past.  So I passed these products to my son instead who is going to turn eleven this year and has been using other OXY products to help clean his face.    I’m sure these will be a great tool to help him fight acne and keep his skin clear.   He already uses the medicated acne pads on a regular basis and would use the daily facial cleanser while taking his shower.

As part of the blogging team, I also received some pHisoderm products.   pHisoderm has a full line of skin care products that are all about pH balance. Every pHisoderm cleanser, toner and moisturizer is formulated to meet your skin’s unique needs.  I received one that is specific for dry skin and used it almost every day.   I also got two other ones for oily skin which my husband have been using as well.    I really like the sensation when I use my pHisoderm product and think that the dryness in my face is not as bad as it used to be.

The right amount of the right product is key to visibly clearer skin without overdrying. Introducing Clearasil® Perfecta Wash™. Clearasil® Perfecta Wash is dermatologist tested and provides visibly clearer skin in as little as 12 hours. Ultra Rapid Action Face Wash refills are available in Superfruit Splash and Soothing Plant Extracts.

*1 dose = 1 activation of dispenser

Our Thoughts

Ever wondered how to treat your greasy face so that you don’t have pimples showing up when it’s not a good time?    Recently, I was informed that I had been selected to participate in a blog tour on the new Clearasil Perfecta Wash.   I received a Clearasil Perfecta Wash with two refills in Soothing Plant Extracts and Superfruit Splash so we can experience the system first-hand.   When I say WE I am talking about my son, who is a pre-teen of almost 11 years old, my husband and myself.    We are three people to try Cleaningout this new product.

While being in a Wal-Mart in NY State a couple of weeks ago, I have seen the Clearasil Perfecta Wash Face Wash System on the shelves.   However, so far I have not seen the product in Wal-Mart or at the pharmacy in Canada.    Even if I go to the Canadian website, I can’t seem to find any information about it.   The US site does contain information on the Perfecta Wash.

Essentially, the Perfecta Wash will provide the perfect dose of the right face wash.   This perfect dose will help to get a clearer skin without overdrying. Washing the face on a daily basis also helps to keep the skin on looking its best.     The fun dispenser makes face-washing convenient and easy and ensures that you get the perfect dose.

There are two Ultra Rapid Action formulas available for use in the dispensertwo-formulas: Superfruit Splash and Soothing Plant Extracts.   Both are formulated with maximum strength acne medication and are dermatologist tested.  For a luscious scent and energizing feel, the Superfruit Splash formula features raspberry and cranberry extracts. The Soothing Plant formula includes ingredients that are known to calm and help reduce redness. The refills are also available for purchase individually.   Each refills will provide approximately 100 doses.

We received the Clearasil Perfecta Wash about a week and a half ago and already we see the benefits of this system.    One day as I felt my skin to be quite greasy in the afternoon, I decided to wash it with the Clearasil Perfecta Wash and I was impressed with how rapidly I sensed the difference in my skin.   I personally like the fact that the dispenser gives you the perfect dose.    Honestly I find it reduce the quantity that could get lost if you put too much in your hands – especially with children if you see what I mean.

My son doesn’t seem to see a difference but I know that his skin looks fresher than usual as he is using it every morning.    My husband has told me that he liked the product but would love to know how much the refill would cost before determining if it would be a product worth buying or not.     It is suggested to use it twice a day but at this point in time, every users in this house are using it at least once a day (and sometimes the adults would skip some days…).

Apparently this product cost about 1/3 of the price of a popular acne product mentioned on the box.   Knowing how much the other product cost, I am not surprised about this.  However, since I have never experience the other product before, I can’t compare both products on this blog post.

The only disappointment I would have is that you can’t put the dispenser in the shower and get the bottom wet as the batteries are located there.   It is clearly indicated at the bottom of the dispenser not to leave it in water.    So our dispenser is currently on the floor next to the bathtub since we would use it while taking a shower.   I would also suggest that you switch the dispenser off after every time you use it as it would help to avoid have some unscheduled delivery of the soap if you pass under the spout by accident (yes we experienced this little accident…).

If you are a mom with a pre-teen/teen in your household, you can have the chance to test the new Clearasil Perfecta Wash too!    All you have to do is signup at the Mom Central Canada website as they are looking for Canadian moms to participate in a product testing opportunity for Clearasil Perfecta Wash who have pre-teen/teen-aged children who suffer from acne, or moms (who suffer with blemishes) who would be willing to try it out themselves.   If you are curious about this new product, I would strongly suggest that you apply for a chance to try it out for free.

Our family – two adults and one pre-teen tested the product -  is very satisfied with the results of Clearasil Perfecta Wash.    However, we wonder how much the refills will be sold.    Knowing this bit of information could be useful to determine if it is worth it or not.   The starter kit was sold for about 14$ US when I was at a Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago.     I suspect that the product will be available everywhere in Canada in the weeks to come.

Note that the dispenser come with 3 x AA batteries which will eventually need replacement.

Empire Reel Babies Program

2-10-2012 3-12-10 PMCongratulations! You have recently learned you were expecting, you gave birth or you have a little one alreade.   Like it or not either your life will change or it has already changed.   And there are times where you wish you had a special time with either your love one or with a girlfriend but babysitting is expensive and you don’t see how you can make an outing happen.

Well I have good news for you!   Empire Theaters have a Reel Babies Program where you can go see  a new-release movie twice a month in a baby-friendly environment.   What?  Is that possible?   You’re kidding right?

No ladies, it is quite possible now-a-days and you won’t believe how great it is to be able to go out even if baby is with you!

Are you worried that the sound will be too loud?  Don’t!   Empire Theater know how the ears of baby is sensitive to loud noise so they are bringing the volume down a bit.    They will even keep the lights on dim to allow you to quickly go to the change table is necessary during the movie.  No need to bring baby in the bathroom to change him/her.    You will also find a bottle warmer for those of you who have chosen not to breast-feed or can’t do it.   A play mat and a swing is also available to keep the babies busy.

I remember the days where I went to see a movie with reduced sounds.    It was fabulous to be able to enjoy a new movie with my little one without worrying about the sound and the fact that he would make noise in the theater.   If you are a new mom and are looking to get out of the house for a few hours, I highly recommend that you consider going to a movie during the Reel babies times.    It will be good for you and even for the little one.

In February, Empire Theaters also have a special promotion.   February is ‘Bring a Friend’ month.  What is it?   Well it is quite simple actually.  Buy one admission to Empire Reel Babies and get a second one free.   Pretty cool eh?   Click on the image below to get more details about this special promotion.

What is also interesting about the program is that you can have your say to which movie will be shown on the Reel Babies days.     Personally I would like to have more family friendly titles available so I could go with my kids but so far I haven`t seen a movie that would be okay for them.    It is a bit disappointing to be honest.  I wouldn’t mind bringing my kids to a Reel Babies showing but I am not open to let them see watch the movies selected so far.

The Empire Reel Babies is perfect for everyone even though it is geared toward moms of younger children.    If the sound bother you at the theater when you go see a movie, try going during a Reel Babies event.   It is quite different.

In Ottawa, only one of the Empire Theaters have the Reel Babies Program and it is the one located in Orléans located at 3752 Innes Road.

Empire Reel Babies

image

I have my first baby on June 25, 2001.   Back then I remember that there was some theaters that offered a special showing for moms with little ones.    I went to a couple of them but I will admit that I didn’t spend a lot of time in theaters with my young ones.   The theater was open but it was difficult toEmpire deal with diapers and so on back in the days.  There was also a time when if you baby would fuss and cry in a public place you would get some comments or disapproving glances around you.

10 years have passed since then.   Nowadays, I find that people are more sympathetic with a fussy little one when you are in a restaurant (well most people are anyway!).   But I also discovered that the theaters have enhanced what they offer to moms of young ones who want to go to see a movie.

The Empire Reel Babies Program will open their door twice a month so that you can enjoy a new-release movie in a baby-friendly environment.  Not only that but the theater is equipped with a change table, bottle warmer, play mat and swing as well!  They even keep the lights on dim and lower the volume a bit.   Talk about being of service to a new mom who needs to go out!   I think it is fabulous and I am partly wishing I would have a baby to enjoy such treatment.   But my kids have grown now…   Remember that little one I have back in 2001?   Well he turned 10 years old this summer and since then two brothers came to join him (2004 and 2005) as well as a sister in 2007.

My kids love to watch movies and I am planning to bring them to a family friendly selection.   I like the fact that the sound will be brought down – even for my kids I am careful with this.    My only disappointment with the program is not knowing in advance what will be playing.   The only Empire Theater offering it is located in Orléans which is about 40 minutes away from my house.  But to have the opportunity to bring all four of my kids at the theater is special to me.   So I am keeping my eyes open for a fun movie to go together which is not dirty, scary or anything with bad language.

But more importantly, Empire Reel Babies is the ultimate outing for new parents.  Twice a month, you can go and enjoy a new-release movie in a baby-friendly environment.   So get out of the house twice a month and go see the latest blockbuster with your spouse or a friend.

In Ottawa, the only Empire theater that offer the Reel Babies program is the  ORLÉANS - Empire Theatres Orléans  which is located at 3752 Innes Road Orléans, ON K1W 0C8  Phone: (613) 830-4400 Movie Line: (613) 830-3133.  To find out if your closest Empire theater is offering the Reel Babies program, simply go to the Playdates page on their website.
