My Thoughts
I have a thing about testimonies. I truly believe that hearing someone’s else story and how God has change his/her life can be inspiring to anyone listening. So when the opportunity rose for me to read and review the book I AM SECOND, I didn’t hesitate one second and jumped on it.
I wasn’t disappointed with my decision. The stories contained in this book will make you think of your own commitment to God and you will reflect of what priority you are putting on your relationship with Him. Seriously, I devoured this book with a few days. I just couldn’t put it down. And let me tell you when you are busy packing because of a move, it’s hard to do! Some of the stories will touch you more than others but that’s okay. You can always learn a little something from each of them. The important thing it to let the Spirit touch you in your soul with what you read. Like it or not, you will be transformed by the time you finish the book.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the reading of these testimonies and will definitively watch other inspiring stories at I AM SECOND. You can also obtain discussion guides of the movies you can watch. I think it is a great way to encourage your teenager to think and express himself/herself about though issues. One of the videos I would strongly recommend would be the one from Bethany Hamilton who lost her left arm after being attacked by a shark. We have seen the movie Soul Surfer and her story is inspiring to say the least for anyone who discover her strong faith. I wouldn’t let youth read all the different stories or watch all the movies as some are related to deeper issues but most of them could become a teachable moment for whoever watching it.
I AM SECOND is a great book to bring with you on your summer vacation and enjoy while sitting on the beach. You can take it one story at a time and ponder how it could be applied in your own life.
