Art Class DVDs
See The Light
About the product
Yes! You Can Draw! Club is your online art lesson! As a member of this interactive club, you get to watch the weekly episodes that teach different art techniques all from your own home. Watch and draw with each lesson video as many times as you would like! And, new lesson video segments are added every week. Grab a pencil and draw along with master artist Miss Pat!
The DVDs will be available in February for the set of 9 discs (which means 36 lessons!). The lessons were tested by focus groups in Los Angeles, Dallas, and Nashville as well as individual art teachers in various cities. They were also shared at various homeschool conventions in 2010. The response was enthusiastic and it was requested to have them on DVD which is being done for 2011.

Who is Pat Knepley?

Pat graduated with a degree and teaching credential in Art Education from Penn State. Currently Pat serves as the Director of Children’s Ministries at a large non-denominational church in Southern California, where she combines her love for the Lord and His word with her passion for teaching kids.
My Thoughts
For those of you who know me, you know that somehow I have discovered that drawing was something that I might be good at. In the past two years, I have discovered an interest for drawing – with various medium like crayons, pencils, painting as well as pastels. Unfortunately, lessons tend to be expensive in this area.
Well, at the end of 2010, I discovered a product that not only will teach me and my kids on how to draw but it also includes Christian teaching in it. So I took on me to request the possibility of reviewing their lessons and even though the DVDs were not available right away, I was able to receive the 12 first lessons of their Art Class DVDs.
The lessons are short and yet precise. You will come out of your 20 minutes viewing period with a better understanding of drawing and the terminology included in this activity. The day I received the DVD, we sat down the three oldest kids (ages 5, 6 3/4 and 9 1/2) and I (age 41) and watched not 1, not 2 but 3 episodes. Actually, we watched the first two lessons (and learned to draw the contour of an apple without looking at the paper) and then we watched the bonus lesson which totally amazed and blow our minds. Both my oldest son and I want to take the time one of these days and draw the scenery showed in that episode. Coming from a child who didn’t find any interest in drawing in the past, I think it is simply fantastic. I think that the fact that the drawing is based on a Christian scene made his interest sparks. Within minutes of the 2nd lesson he was up and running to get paper and pencils for everyone. Sweet.
I am very impressed with the quality of the video. At times, the camera is shaking a bit when doing close-ups but it is not to the point that it would reduce your attention span. The lessons are so interesting that you will want to learn more by the time the lesson is finished. As much as I am excited about this product, I also know that doing it too fast might not be good. When I decided that it was enough for the day, my oldest son continued to practice a bit on his paper so that he can get better. As for our apple that we used as model well…. let just say that three hungry kids decided to eat it!
When you start the lessons, you will start with the basics. Literally! And let me tell you for someone who is discovering drawing, I am pleased to have gone through the basics. Each lesson will bring you a new aspect of drawing. For example, the first lesson presented the tools needed to discover drawing. Then lesson 2 introduced the different types of lines as well as contour drawing. And after going through these two lessons, I hardly can’t wait to see what else I will learn from the next lessons. I suspect that my drawing will have improve quite a bit after going through the 12 lessons I have received.
Please don’t take my review for granted. Watch it on your own by going to http://vimeo.com/11272093. This is the first lesson of the Art Class series.
I am totally sold out from what I have seen so far and look forward to discover other products from this company in the months to come. I actually have another product from them to review that is all about the Christmas story. I look forward to sit down and watch it. From what I have seen so far, I am prepared to have my mind blown away!
Thank you See The Light for a wonderful way to incorporate drawing and biblical lessons together! The lessons are inspiring and it actually encourage us to persevere in exploring drawing. The lessons of Art Class have sparked the interest in drawing for my kids.
I highly recommend this product for any homeschoolers and christian families who want to explore drawing. The lessons are clear and easy to follow. You will discover that drawing is possible for anyone with a little guidance from the Master Artist Pat Knepley.
