About the DVD

Elephants have been everything in our cultures from deities to political party symbols to children's book heroes. In this captivating DVD, our fascination with these animals is explored, with beautiful footage of elephants in their natural habitats combined with close ups filmed in the Eyewitness studio.

Our Thoughts

Today we embarked on a journey toward Africa and Asia to discover a great animal – the elephant.

The DVD was surprisingly interesting and very informative about this pachyderm.   By the way, do you know what the word pachyderm means?   It means thick skin and another animal sharing this terminology is the rhinoceros.

The DVD will allow you to discover fascinating facts about the elephant.    For example did you know that an elephant will go through 6 set of molars through his life?   Amazing!   And to see the demonstration on how elephants really walk is very interesting.  Who would have thought that they walk on their tippy toes.

The kids were surprised to see how important an elephant can have to impact its environment.  Through the video, we saw how this animal can change the environment but also help it.    This part of the video was interesting to say the least because it explains how other animals uses the dung of the elephants for various reasons whether it is food or shelter… yes I am serious about this!

This DVD was definitively very interesting and helped us to discover more about the world of elephants.   We also learned how elephants were used in the past and how they are still useful in various parts of the world.

The DK Eyewitness DVD Elephant is available at your favorite bookstore, even amazon.ca.
