My Thoughts

I will admit that at first I was planning to let my oldest son color in this book as he is the one who is the most interested in the human body.   But I quickly realized that it would be a problem when the two oldest were arguing about it.  You see both of them are learning IMG_2699about the human body and both wanted to color in it.    My second son wanted to be part of the process of reviewing it and my oldest wanted to keep the book for himself.   What to do?   Seeing that Dominic was highly interested in having his own coloring book on the human body and that his birthday was fast approaching, we decided we will surprise him with his own Human Body Coloring Book.   So we ordered one on amazon.ca and waited patiently before I allowed the kids to color in the other one.    He was surprised all right and now peace has come back in my house (well for this particular issue anyway!).

This workbook will be a blessing to anyone who wants to learn more about the human anatomy.   Not only it will guide you to learn the different names of the parts found in our body but it will allow you to be creative and color them individually.   Repetition is a good way of learning and writing the same name numerous times in different pages will help anyone to remember it.

The book is divided in sections based on the various systems found in the human body.  Each section begins with a few colorful pages introducing the systems.   Each introduction contains text as well as images illustrating the various systems. The only section that doesn’t contain pages to color is the first one – The Body.     This section will give you a general idea of what the human body is composed with a surface anatomy, the composition of the body, cell and tissue information as well as a quick introduction of the various systems found in the body.  Here’s the sections that you will find in the book.

  • The Body
  • Skeletal System
  • Muscular and Integumentary Systems
  • Nervous System
  • Respiratory System
  • Cardiovascular System
  • Lymphatic and Immune Systems
  • Digestive System
  • Endocrine System
  • Urinary System
  • Reproductive System

Each page that the student can color has a small description as well as a color coded text box which will help to identify the parts to color.   The student has the flexibility of choosing the colors he wants to use for each parts numbered in the page.   For example, both boys have colored the page about the knee in the skeletal system.    In this specific page, we learn that the knee joint is formed by the articulation of the femur in the thigh with the tibia of the lower leg and the patella (kneecap).   It also gives much information about the function of the knee.

My oldest has already done numerous pages in his book since Dominic got his. Dominic is taking his time to color the body parts. I am not expecting them to be similar and learn at the same pace. I am just glad that both are interested in the human body and willing to take the time to color in it.

The boys are grabbing their Human Body Coloring Book whenever they have some down time.   In a way, I appreciate their willingness to advance the book if I am busy with the younger two.    I am glad that Dominic is showing interest and seem excited to color through this book as well.   I suspect that I might have to get two more book for the younger kids eventually.

I find this book to be a great way to learn more about the human body.   It is a great tool for the kids to discover how their body work and to deepen their knowledge on the subject.    We use this workbook as a supplement in our human anatomy lessons.    I highly recommend this book for anyone who want to study more about the anatomy.

The Human Body Coloring Book is available at your favorite bookstore, even amazon.ca.
