About the e-book
Copying the Classics is a series of copywork books focused on building Christian character. Available in a wide range of penmanship styles and levels, each book draws from classic literature and related passages of scripture to develop a Christian worldview and a strong spiritual foundation while practicing printing and handwriting skills.
Copying the Classics: McGuffey's Eclectic Primer uses The Original McGuffey's Eclectic Primer as its literature selection. Written in 1836 by William H. McGuffey the Primer has long been used to help young children learn to read and was reprinted with all its Christian content intact by Mott Media in 1982 (all excerpts are used with permission.)
Now young children can use selections from the Primer in their copywork lessons to reinforce the material they have just learned. This title is available only in our 1-A level, as it is designed specifically for beginners.
This title is appropriate for beginners who have learned to form their letters (mastery is not required), and are working with larger letters. One sentence, verse or line is generally presented per lesson.
20 lessons are included: one introductory and one closing (from the KJV) which focus on building character, and 18 which correspond directly to the 18 lessons of the The Original McGuffey's Eclectic Primer laid out in an easy to copy format for young copyists.
This title does not include the full text of the Primer and is designed as a supplement.
My Thoughts
We don’t own The Original McGuffey’s Eclectic Primer but when I got the opportunity to review this product, I chose it because it would make my 2nd son practice his writing during the summer time.
I find this ebook very well organized. There is lots of space for the child to write and you would find images that he/she can color as well.
Dominic is enjoying writing in this little book. He can practice his reading as well as he advance in it. Sometimes, the child will have some scriptures to copy while other time it would be words.
I especially loves the images that the child can color after working hard on his/her writing. Also included in this little gem of a copybook are scriptures that you can go through with your child while he copies it. I find writing a scripture helps to remember it in the long run. I used this technique when my oldest son was going through his Awana book last year. It worked like a charm and I plan to do it again when September comes around!
But to go back to Copying the Classics: McGuffey’s Eclectic Primer – ZB1-A, I would recommend it to anyone who wants their kid to practice their writing. As my mom always told me when I was younger “Practice makes perfect!” and I believe to write properly is something that needs lots of practice.
I discovered that you can download the McGuffey’s Eclectic Primer ebook from Project Gutenberg which is fantastic if you ask me. Now I can print the book and go along with the writing exercises.
You can purchase Copying the Classics: McGuffey's Eclectic Primer - ZB 1-A is available to purchase at Currclick for the price of 4.09 Cdn.
This review was possible because I received a free copy of Copying the Classics: McGuffey's Eclectic Primer - ZB 1-A from Bogart Family Resources.
