My Thoughts

When we go camping and fishing at our resort, we encounter some species of reptiles and amphibians.  One of our favorite ones is definitively the painted turtle which can be found around the campground.    I was even able to witness a painted turtle laying her eggs in the ground one day!   It was fabulous to observe her doing so.

This past summer my son, Jérémy, found a small painted turtle and we brought it back to the lake.    We put it on its back and it quickly turn back around.  It was amazing to see it doing it.

The Audubon Reptiles and Amphibians app will provide description for any species of turtle, frog, toad, lizard, salamander, snake, and crocodilian that can be found in North America.   Granted in Canada, finding crocodilian can be tricky but we have our share of frogs, toads, snakes and turtles….

Like all other Audubon apps, you will be able to browse by shape, family and name as well as search for a specie.

So as you search for the painted turtle, you can learn its habitat, description, where you can find it, their breeding as well as see various pictures of the turtle.  This summer as I was exploring the various paths around the campground I witnesses numerous painted turtle taking a sun bath on a tree that had fallen in the water.   It was nice to see them sharing this spot near the path I was walking on.
