Antonio Meets His Match – Hermie and Friends # 14 DVD
From Max Lucado

About the DVD
A rude foreigner moves into the garden, testing Antonio's patience.
Antonio should probably be called “Brave Ant”, for the heroic way he leads his Army Ants in defending the garden from, say, Big Bully Croaker. But when some foreign ants move into the garden, their strange ways challenge Antonio to use something other than physical strength and military experience to solve a problem. Featuring Tim Conway as Hermie and special guest-star Fred Willard (“Wall-E”, “Kim Possible”, “Chicken Little”, etc) and includes the original song “How Could Anyone Not Love Me” and the cartoon short "Caterpilla" (a spoof of Cinderella). Lesson is based on Luke 10:27 "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." (ICB)

My Thoughts
Today was a special day. According to a site where I pick the special days I post on facebook, it is popcorn day. So I wanted to make popcorn as a snack for my kids this morning. What goes well with popcorn? A movie! And fortunately, I had just received the new DVD from Hermie & Friends – Antonio Meets His Match the previous day.
So we sat down, me and the four kids, and watch Antonio learn about loving his neighbours. Antonio is good at a lot of things – especially sports. The whole movie starts with the Fruit Olympics. I thought it was interesting that some Olympics were part of the movie as we are just around the corner for the winter Olympics here in Canada. But then, after the Fruit Olympics, Antonio and his friends meet his new neighbours – the red ants.
These ants are not so nice and it is hard for Antonio and the others to love them. But God speak to Antonio and encourage him to love his new neighbours. But no matter what Antonio do, the red ants are just plain mean or not appreciative. Still God encourage Antonio. Turns out that there will be a competition between Antonio and the leader of the red ants! These games reminded me of the Highland Games held each year in town.
In the end, the ants do learn to appreciate each other and their gifts. It is a great movie for kids to learn to love their neighbours. Also, I think it was pretty interesting to have God speak directly to the ant to tell him what to do. Kids are then introduced to the fact that God do speak to us and it is important to seek his advice about various situations in our life. Finally, how can I not mention that Mrs. Ladybug and her two kids are part of the movie? This was indeed and highlight for me since I just love the ladybugs... *grin*
This was our first DVD about Hermie & Friends and we enjoyed it while eating our popcorn!
