About the book
Learn how to create your first pieces of art with these 35 brilliant projects! Clare Youngs shows you all the different ways you can make fabulous pictures that you will be proud of. You'll find lots of ideas in Pretty Prints – from using sponge cloths to bubble wrap and potatoes. Then have fun trying out the projects in Painting Fun, where you can get messy with the ink blot aliens and wet tissue paper pictures, and create fabulous pictures like the oil pastel owl. In Beach and Vacation Art, you can make use of natural materials that you find while you're playing, such as driftwood and shells, plus have a go at the seagull postcards to send to your friends. Finally, use scraps of paper, photos and magazine pages in Paper and Collage Art for super creations, including a photo collage that would be a great gift and homemade picture frames to display all your new pieces of art. All the projects are easy to follow with adorable artworks to guide you along the way; plus, each one has a grade so you can start with the easiest and then move on as your artistic skills develop.
My Thoughts
If you are looking for an art book to give this Christmas, I have the one for you. This book contains thirty-five fun and easy projects for children aged 7 years old and up. Four chapters are included in this book – Printing Fun – Ink, Paint, Pastels, and More – Beach and Vacation Art – Collages and Paper Pictures. There are definitively a ton of fun art ideas contained in the book for every kids in your family!
In the Printing Fun chapter, your child will be able to create a fun t-shirt that sports an elephant on it, do a repeat pattern print, or created a bag with boot prints on it. If he/she prefers coloring and painting then chapter two will be the chapter to explore with 3-D cards (something my son Dominic will love to do), oil pastel owls, chalk creations and much more. For the Beach and Vacation chapter, you will get ideas to keep your kids occupied during the summer time or while on a trip. Finally, in the Collages and Paper Pictures, your child will explore a variety of art projects that require creativity with paper.
The projects found in this book are quite original and out-of-the-ordinary I find. I love the cityscape collage found at page 108, the Picasso postcards at page 93, and particularly the oil pastel owls on page 49. Once I saw these cute little owls, I think it would make a cool project to do. So out came the oil pastels, the white paper, and the paint and I proceeded to create my own version of the project.
Whether you homeschool, babysit, run a daycare for older kids or simply want to entertain your kids when it is raining outside, My First Art Activity Book can be a life saver for you.
This would also make a great gift for the artist child in your family!
My First Art Activity Book is available at your favourite bookstore, even amazon.ca and amazon.com.
