About the book

Teaching high school level science from a Biblical perspective.

Teachers and students will find clear biological answers proving science and Scripture fit together to honor the Creator. This dynamic educational resource helps young people not only learn science from a biblical perspective, but also helps them know how to defend their faith in the process.

The three units and nineteen chapters:

  • Covers in-depth topics such as genes and Genesis, the roll of natural selection, embryonic development, as well as DNA and the magnificent origins of life
  • Powerfully refutes the evolutionary worldview that life simply evolved by chance over millions of years--Provides exceptional insights and clarity to patterns of order in living things, including the promise of healing and new birth in Christ
  • Offers a fill-in-the-blank or short answer study page at the end of each chapter so students may test their comprehension
  • Helps students know how to defend their faith scientifically

Who is Gary Parker?

Gary Parker, a former evolutionist, has an Ed. D in biology, and has lectured widely for both the Institute for Creation Research and Answers in Genesis.  His lively lectures incorporate his specialty: fossils.  Gary and his wife, Mary, live in Florida, conducting science labs and field trips.

My Thoughts

This book is definitively geared for high school students.  It is part of the Creation Foundation Series that gives young people answers that show how science and the Bible fir together to give answers for what we need in life.

With plenty of illustrations and explanations, the author lay out the lessons in such a way that the student will come out of it with more strength to defend his/her faith.   Each lesson also has  a Building Inspection section where he/she has to answer some questions based on the information learned.    Ideally, if would be preferable if the student don’t go back in the text to confirm his/her answer.  The answers are located at the end of the book.

I find it important for my kids to know how to explain themselves properly concerning their faith and beliefs.    This book will help them to strengthen their arguments and be confident in their answers.   They will also learned how to refute the evolutionary worldview that life simply evolved by chance over millions of years.  With a child who talks about becoming a doctor, I needed something like this to help him understand the difference between the evolution and the creation arguments.

While going through this book I have learned that melatonin is produced by the pineal gland which is located between the hemispheres of the brain.   Melatonin is also involved in Seasonal Affective Disorder which affects many people around the world.   I personally think that I am affected by this – simply said when we have many darker days (like in winter for example), I have trouble shaking the sleepy feeling.  This is also known as Winter depression.    Fortunately, in recent years it has been discovered that the vitamin D helps quite a lot.   I have personally seen a big difference this past two e years when I took the vitamin D on a regular basis.  Not everyone is fortunate like the author to be able to go back and forth from summer in America to summer in Australia.

I also learned about the importance of the appendix.   For years, I have heard that this little part of the intestine was not important.   Now, I know better.    Apparently scientists have discovered that it is crucial for our immune identification and defense system.   The appendix prepares certain blood cells to produce antibodies.   Even though it completes its vital function before birth, the appendix will continue to perform its immune system functions throughout life.  Isn’t it interesting?     I am completely in awe by this information.   God knew what He was doing when He created man.

I am looking forward to read this book with my kids when they come in age to do so.  In the meantime, if you have high schoolers in your life that are interested in life science, consider purchasing Building Blocks in Life Science.  It will help them to be able to defend their faith in the future.

A companion volume to this book would be the book titled Building Blocks in Science.

Building Blocks in Life Science is available at your favourite bookstore, even amazon.ca.
