About the Game

Time is ticking. You can't talk or act. But you can find, grab and play just the right clues from 120 descriptive tiles as everyone else shouts out their guesses. You play living, wild and tall. Redwood? Giraffe? Basketball player? Nope. You keep playing tiles: furry, brown, bouncy. KANGAROO! They guessed it! That's the funny, noisy, unique, entertaining, magical, fast-moving fun of FUNGLISH™!

My Thoughts

As a homeschooler I am always on the look out for fun games that will help to develop the vocabulary.   And Funglish is such a game not only for the English language but for the French as well.

I have heard of the game but had not had the opportunity of discovering it.

The game is quite easy.   All you have to do is pick a car from the deck, scan the words on the list provided and select one of them.   Now all you have to do is to quickly use the tiles that would describe your words as fast as you can since your partner/team has only 3 minutes to guess which word you are trying to make them discover.   But beware, you can’t talk, make noise or do charades.  The tiles used to help for the guessing have various colour categories:

Green = positive traits

Black = Colours and Patterns

Yellow = Sizes and Shapes

Red = High-Powered Adjectives

Olive = Negative Traits

Grey = Materials

Orange = Opposites

Tan = Everything Else!

Blue = geography, History, Arts & Sports

With the words placed on the easel, the guesser have to discover the word you have chosen.  The easel contains three different sections: Definitively, Kind of , and Not.    When the word is guessed you pass to another word on your card.   If all the words are found on the card during the three minutes the team gets a bonus point.   A game like this will bring lots of laughter and excitement around the living room for sure!

Personally I particularly  like the fact that the game is bilingual.    When I look at buying a game I will always try to determine if we could play it in English and in French.  Knowing that I can find games in both languages is an advantage for our family and I find it important to have my kids know both languages.    Another disappointment would be the fact that there is only 50 cards included in the box.  Some would say “Come on – 50 cards which all have 6 words on it.  That’s a lot.”  Maybe but I would have liked to have more cards anyway.   I am hopeful that someday an expansion pack will be available (hey I saw one for the Apple to Apple game this week-end…. so if Funglish gets very popular why not?).

This game sounds very interesting.   My kids are a bit  young to play this right now.   But I am planning to use it differently for our homeschool and help develop the vocabulary of my kids in both official languages.    Just for fun we could easily develop the ability of  describing something by using the tiles.    In the meantime, I am hoping that some friends would like to play with us in a near future.   It feels like ages since we had a game night with friends…  Any takers?

Funglish is available at your favourite toy store.
