Our Thoughts
Do you know how many bones your body has?
What happens when you swallow?
Why your urine is yellow?
What is a pulse?
This book will answer many of your questions regarding the human body. While reading this book, you will have questions and answers about the body parts, how to fuel the body, the brainpower, the heart, and how you came to life. The book is accompanied by numerous pictures (including the video pill) and illustrations that will help you get a clear idea on how the human body works and what it does every single day of your life.
The question that immediately caught our interest was what makes us burp? Having boys in the house I have learned to not overreact when such things as burping are happening. However, let me tell you that there is a limit to the activity. On a more personal level, I was fascinated with the answer on if we could live without a liver. I knew that liver transplant were possible but what I didn’t know is that a liver can perform more than 500 jobs. What does a liver do you might wonder? Well it stores and process recently digested nutrients, removes poisons from the blood, and recycles worn-out blood cells. I’m sure these are only a fraction of what the liver is necessary for a body. the liver is also the largest internal organ we have. I find these facts fascinating.
Each subject also contains a section titled MORE FACTS which will gives you and your kids more information on the subject approached in the pages. In on of these sections I learned that the brain makes up only 2 percent of my body but it uses 20% of my oxygen intake to release energy to keep it working, that only 1/6 of my eyeballs is visible, that perfumers have a super sense of smells and that the rosy periwinkle, a rainforest plant, can be used to treat leukemia.
This book is a good book to bring with you while you travel as the kids can deepen their knowledge while you are travelling. It is packed with interesting questions and answers about the human body. I would recommend it for families who love to discover more about how the human body works.
The Human Body Q&A is available at your favourite bookstore, even amazon.ca.
