Our Thoughts
I love birds and I love to observe them. This year I was blessed with new sighting of species I had not seen yet.
The eyewitness DVD on birds is perfect to introduce the children to the world of birds. From the courtship, making a nest, birth and flight of birds, this DVD will inform you and your children about the variety of ways birds live around the world. You will see the penguins flying in the water, the ostrich running, the majestic eagle catching a fish out of the water and much more. In the courtship section you will see how different birds attract their mate and in the nesting part of the movie you will discover how different nests are made. My kids were especially in awe with the bird who sew his nest. It was very special to see him at work. My son, Jérémy, wasn’t too impressed with the mention of bird’s nest soup – a delicacy in China apparently.
The only thing that some fellow homeschoolers might not like from this DVD is the mention of evolution and the fact that the first flying creatures were insects. As Christian, I make sure that my kids are taught the Biblical view of creation and they immediately told me that birds were created on the first day along with insects, flying dinosaurs, baths, and so on. It made a mam proud of her brood let me tell you. The kids know to differentiate the Creation theory from the Evolution theory. As a mom who wants her kids prepared, I see the need to make sure they know both theories so that they can be prepared when they arrive in college and university.
Still even though evolution is mentioned a few times throughout this video, I find it is an amazing DVD to watch. It is well done and will show the birth of a duck at its various stages. It can be a wonderful resources to have when you study birds during your school year. The DK Eyewitness DVD is definitively bringing the book (DK Eyewitness) more alive and real for everyone who is watching it. Seeing the birds fly, attract their mate, build a nest and surviving makes a huge difference I find.
This DVD is definitively an great addition to your homeschool library!
