Our Thoughts
One of my sons struggled with learning to read last year. But we worked hard and he is now able to read on his own. He particularly like comic books but I wanted to get him to read other kind of reading material. So I asked DK Canada if it would be possible to get some Star Wars DK Readers for him since he loves Star Wars very much.
I decided to start with the Pre-Level 1 with him to see how he will do. Right from the first page, he said it was too babyish for him but I encouraged him to pursue and go through the book. I will be the judge on how he does in the end.
He did. The only words he was having trouble with were the names of the various beast we encountered through the pages but thanks to DK the pronunciation of the names was also included in the books. Each set of pages will present a different beast from the Star Wars The Clone Wars television serie. And at the turn of each pages, my son would say
Oh this one!
Every single time… through the whole book. It was so funny to get his reaction. In the end, he was happy to have gone through the book with flying colors. We discussed which beasts he preferred and which one I liked the most.
His choice was the Shaaks (pronounce Shocks) because it looks funny. Mine was the Kwazel Maw – which is very colorful.
This book is definitively for young readers. My son was able to zoom through it no problem. But it was fun to go through the book and discover the various beasts from Star Wars The Clone Wars.
