About the DVD
Rock and Mineral shatters the stone's reputation for "rock-solid" permanence. Discover how rocks keep a constantly changing record of our planet’s fascinating history, and see how minerals are at the very core of our civilization.
Our Thoughts
My boys have been fascinated with Rocks since our trip in Sudbury last year. We visited the Science North quite a bit while there and discovered many thing.
In a special section of the museum, the kids could go through the polishing of stones and discover when will happen when doing so. They enjoyed it so much that a few days later when we went back they wanted to do it again!
They also experimented with erosion with this special table at the Science North Museum.
This museum has also a special section where you can bring the things you find in nature and exchange them for other things. This Nature Market was a big hit for our kids! All of them loved to see and touch the various things out there, even rocks. There was also a table where we could find fossils…
Like I mentioned before, the boys are fascinated with Rocks since then… and every time they can they will pick up rocks and observe them. It reminds me of myself when I was younger. I was walking through a field on the way back from school (yes I walked to school back in the days!) and came across a bunch of shiny rocks. Needless to say that I picked quite a bit and brought them home. LOL
Watching the Rock & Mineral DVD might have deepen the interests of the kids. It will present how rock is part of our life and how it has affected through history. Mind you the information within this DVD is not Christian based per say but it is quite interested nevertheless. You will also discover the different minerals we can encounter on a regular basis and learn interesting facts about the belief of people of the past concerning some of these minerals.
I am impressed with the quality of the DVD and the information it contains. It gives you a great introduction on Rocks and Minerals and can easily be part of your homeschool in the geology lessons. This DVD will also present geological information even though it is in a brief way.
If your child is interested in rocks and want to learn more about them, this DVD is a great addition for your home library.
The Eyewitness DVD Rock & Mineral is available at your favourite bookstore, even amazon.ca.
