My Thoughts
What are sharks? This little book will answer this question and much more. It contains lots of information on sharks as well as rays, skates, and chimaeras. So do you have a child who is interested in sharks and would learn more about them? Well the Pocket Genius Sharks is definitively for him or her.
I was surprised to see how many different kind of sharks existed in the oceans as well as other kind of fish that I didn’t know. For example did you know there is a fish called the guitarfish? Yes I am serious about this. Actually there are 50 species of guitarfish and they are named for their unique body shape, which resembles the musical instrument. These fish have a triangular body shape with a pointed snout, broad pectoral fins and a long tapering tail end.
The photos are fabulous, the size of the book is perfect to bring along anywhere you go, and the information contained in it will more than likely stir the interest of the reader. Once you discover a new kind of shark, my guess that you will want to read more about it. What a great way to stir interesting in reading more on a subject. Though I have reservation for the ancient sharks section in the book, I find it very interesting and great for an homeschool personal library.
The Pocket Genius books are great for anyone. They have four titles at this point in time – including dinosaurs, animals, and rocks and minerals. Two other titles will join the collection later this year – bugs and ancient Egypt. On the plus side, they can provide learning experience for your kids during the summer months whether they are in camp or travelling long distance with the family!
The Pocket Genius Sharks is available at your favorite bookstore, even amazon.ca.
