About the book

Patrick and Beth arrive in World War II Holland in the farm country. They must smuggle a baby (by bicycle) into the capable hands of Corrie ten Boom at her home in Haarlem. Along the way they hide from Nazi soliders, meet a Russian surgeon forced into service by the Germans, and encourage two Jewish children who haven’t been outside in over three years. The children learn to appreciate the bravery and sacrifice of everyday people who helped the Jews.

My Thoughts

From all the books of the Imagination Station that I have read so far, this one is my favourite.   Maybe it’s because I really like the story of Corrie Ten Boom but I think it is fabulous that real events from the past is mixed up with fiction characters.

Once again the cousins, Patrick and Beth, are teleported in history.  They arrive in the midst of the second world war and are surrounded by Germans.   How can they protect themselves so that they are not caught?  What can they do to help the people that they encounter?   They will learn that sometimes it takes courage to do something that could change the life of someone.    They will discover bravery and sacrifice were necessary to help neighbours and friends.

And like the other books in the series, you will also have a secret word puzzle that will allow you to receive a free episode of Focus on the Family Adventures in Odyssey.   My kids and I love listening to these while we drive to the swimming lessons or other activities.   The episode are always fun to listen and a new lesson is attached to each one of them.

The books are great for grade 2 or 3 kids but even older kids and parents would appreciate them.  They are  a great addition for any personal library.  If you are wondering which books you could purchase for your kids this Christmas, I would like to suggest the whole series of The Imagination Station.

Escape to the Hiding Place is available at your favourite bookstore, even amazon.ca and amazon.com

It is also available on the Kindle.
