Wonders of Old Ancient Timeline

About the app
Wonders of Old: Ancient Timeline is a beautiful timeline reference app which will give you a unique perspective on the events of world history. It is a proven fact that timelines help cement historical facts for students and adults alike. Seeing the progression of time in the form of a timeline will allow your student to gain a better understanding of the flow of history.
The truth is... many students may study the fall of Carthage, the Han Dynasty, the Rosetta Stone, and the archeological site of Teotihuacan, never realizing that these four events all happened within the same timeframe - 202-196BC. These events may seem unrelated and yet the use of a timeline can unlock the mystery as to why all of these events occurred within the same period of time. A timeline will give you and/or your student a unique perspective of time. By seeing the events of history recorded in linear progression, you will make connections between those events in history that you might not otherwise make.
Wonders of Old is a 4-part app series, dividing the events of world history into four historical time periods: ancient, medieval, new world and modern. Wonders of Old: Ancient Timeline is the first app in this series.
I am no stranger of the product of Knowledge Quest. I have heard of them and know of the Wonders of Old Ancient Timeline. I am quite pleased to see that this wonderful homeschool product has found it’s way to the digital era. Personally I was quite excited about this app because I am planning to jump into the study of history with the kids this Spring. I had started a couple of years ago but back then I was just starting homeschooling and suddenly felt overwhelmed with it. So I put aside our history book and waited. Now I feel I can handle homeschool a little bit more and plan to re-introduce history in our schedule. With the main subject almost completed for this year, it would be interesting to study something different and explore the ancient times.
So having the Wonders of Old app will also help us to be transported in the ancient times as we can observe and read about the kingdom, empires, rulers, wars, artifacts, inventions, advancements and more. While studying history with your kids, you can easily travel the timeline and find what you need. I like the way the timeline is presented. When a specific subject attract your eye, you simply have to click on it to obtain more details on it.
I see that we will more than likely use this app a lot during our studies on ancient times while doing history. I find it always interesting to have images with text about something. This app is offering just this for many ages from the past and areas around the world – Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia and Americas. It is complete in many aspects as it present the history in multiple areas during a certain period of time with one eye view.
The app is also linked to Wikipedia for certain topics. However, I find that it is better to hold your iPad on the landscape side because when the Wikipedia windows opens it would be cut if the iPad is on the portrait side.
Nevertheless, this app is wonderful to have and I am recommending it to anyone studying ancient civilizations with their students whether at school or at home.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Requires iOS 4.2 or later.
Available directly from the iTunes store for 4.99$.
