About the book

You may be confused by the pain in your life, but God isn't.

President and CEO of Focus on the Family Jim Daly doesn't claim to know the "why's," and he doesn't ever promise that you will, either. But he's had his own share of harrowing experiences, and through the pain he's accepted a transformational truth: God uses struggles to strengthen your faith.

With warmth and candor, Daly relates narratives from his childhood and adult life, and from his international travels for Focus on the Family. He tells engaging real-life stories that, although seemingly tragic, demonstrate the constancy of God's grace in the midst of disillusionment. Without outlining a step-by-step program, he shares spiritual and practical Biblical principles that demonstrate how to draw on our only source of enduring, powerful strength.

Through Christ, our brokenness is redeemed. Through Christ, we become stronger.

In the end, STRONGER shows us that we can find strength in our weakness and that we can always continue to grow as Christians, in our families, and as people.

Who is Jim Daly?

After pursuing careers in sales and international business, Jim Daly became a member of the Focus on the Family team in 1989. Since then he has risen through the company until becoming President and CEO in 2005. He lives with his wife of twenty six years, Jean, and their two sons, in Colorado Springs.

My Thoughts

When I realized that Jim Daly, president and CEO of Focus on the Family, was the author of this book, I thought it would be interesting to read what he has to say about how we can be stronger in our weaknesses.

When I started reading this book, I also heard of some families going through hard times with their kids – difficult sickness demanding chemo treatments for one and sudden death of a 22 month old girl for another one.    I know one of these families while the other one is part of our homeschooling community but I don’t know them personally.   Life is hard and sometimes we must face difficult situations.   When these happens, we need to stand strong in our faith.   This book is about that and more.

I was touched and moved beyond my expectations right from the introduction of the book when Daly writes about en encounter he had with a Chinese missionary during a visit in China.    The words of the Chinese gentleman stirred something in me.    He was right and nailed it.   As North American Christians we have it easy and I wonder sometimes how our faith will stand in face of persecution and trials.

Have you ever stop and think about how you would react if someone would persecute you to reject Christ?   It is a good exercise I find.

Stronger is divided in three parts.   Part 1 is presenting the various ways when our strength can fail with plenty of examples to related to your own life.   Part 2 is demonstrating the importance of surrender, acceptance, trust and joy in the midst of our difficulties.   Finally in part 3, Daly is helping us to strengthen our strength with perseverance, character and hope.

I find this book very encouraging and inspiring to trust God more and more every single day through our weaknesses and difficulties.   While we grow stronger, we are also growing in maturity and character.

If you find yourself in the midst of hard times and wonder how God is present in your life, I would like to recommend to read Stronger.    It will help you to go through whatever is happening in your life.

Stronger is available in every bookstores, even at amazon.ca.
